Create Experiences for People 17 and Older on Roblox

I think it’s going to be a train wreck that gets tons of developers and players banned. Roblox is horrible at implementation and they are not remotely good at thinking things through ahead of time.

They have people whose accounts are immune to moderation test features and then subject real developers to painful moderation, never considering if their stuff works in the real world.

This is going to be a disaster of epic proportions. I’m rocking like 9 or 10 days waiting on a reply to my last absurd moderation because a piece to a low poly fence got moderated as directing people off site. Can you imagine the moderation nightmare that this is going to create?

If this company had a clue what they were doing, they would have fixed the moderation before ever announcing this. There’s already youtube videos implying Roblox is allowing real 17+ content even though Roblox is so far away from the ESRB that their rating system is like something an extreme religion would make up.

I don’t even take this release seriously, it’s a joke and does nothing but put developer’s and player’s accounts in jeopardy. Players are going to respond to this like it’s really 17+ and they’re just going to get banned, just like developers making inappropriate content, since countless developers aren’t even on this forum and will never read this stuff.

i am not sure why simulated gambling is now nailed down. i know it’s a risk of addiction, even considering the fact that legal age for gambling is 18+ in half of world countries (except US where majority of states require you to be 21+ in order to play). in my opinion, i believe people over the age of 17 should be mature enough to know the risks of gambling and be able to play only simulated with a condition that no real world currency, cryptocurrency, or Robux is involved.

but my main question is, will Roblox review ban on simulated gambling? and will Roblox continue expanding age recommendations up to 18+ or even 21+?

It’s hillarious to me that they double down on simulated gambling in games that have NOTHING to do with anything of value (such as mine) meanwhile they do NOTHING WHATSOEVER about random paid items (looking at you PSX) that is literal gambling.

I doubt it since their 17+ isn’t even real 17+ content. I can’t imagine after the train wreck 17+ is going to be that they will ever even consider higher.

hell, looking at ESRB ratings, at the age of 13+ you can experience simulated gambling, but here on this platform they just outright banned it, as well as strong language which is under another question.

i agree that the 17+ age recommendation feels more like 13+. i’m only hoping they will change it in the future

At this point 17+ sounds more like glorified 13+ to be fair.

Experiences will still be allowed to have unplayable gambling content (e.g., show a casino or people playing cards). Additionally, experiences that have games of luck or chance that are not casino or gambling based will still be allowed, such as bingo or arcade style games. Provided that they comply with our Community Standards, paid random item generators and lootboxes will still be permitted.

Does anyone know if this means I can have functional casino games such as Roulette or Blackjack as long as I make it so there is absolutely no currency involved (not even in-game currency that can’t be purchased with Robux), essentially meaning you can only play just for the experience of playing the game?

i must agree and its a serious issue around roblox, people with false id.

Note: 17+ Experiences will be unavailable for users in South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

I am not a developer, but I live in Turkey. However, I don’t understand the reason why we can’t use the 17+ system in Turkey. There are no rules or laws that prohibit or prevent us from accessing content meant for individuals aged 17+ or similar content specified in our country. We already need to verify ourselves with an official ID to access 17+ content. It’s so ridiculous.

I have a question :
Does this game count as gambling?
You can pay money (not robux) to play luck games which make you earn or lose money.

Depictions of romance are fine but actual romance should be banned.
ie. depiction of romance as part of lore should totally be allwoed in 17+ games but games dedicated for actual romance should be banned.

As long as it doesn’t ressemble any casino games, it’s allowed pretty sure

I already knew gory games existed on Roblox.
And they often do look plasticy.

But I’m a 3D artist and do a bit of sound design as well, using realistic-looking graphics and sound effects often puts your game at high risk.
Some get moderated and some don’t.

The thing is, now that 17+ games can be a thing I can actually make some impressive and non-plastic-looking gore effects, utilize better sounds and script more advanced effects or implement gameplay mechanics that previously were high-risk.

no adults >25 wants to see fake blood with the material smoothplastic come out of a rectangle

Gotta disagree with that statement, cartoony gore can look cool and stylish and I’m turning 20 next month.
I’ve watched many films and series and played many games with various visual and graphics styles throughout my life.
Gore does not always have to be gross and realistic, it should fit the game’s general art style ideally.

Can we maybe get some examples of what is and isn’t allowed instead of being so vague?

Funny you say that… I can make female-looking characters just fine while still abiding by TOS limitations. What’s your problem, might I ask? No offense intended, I genuinely want to know.

Why i can’t redo the questionnaire if my game is 17+ there should be a second chance pleaseee

I actually do have a question for this.

So, since making a game 17+ might result in less players since likely not everyone will have their accounts verified.
17+ games sadly require verification which can hurt player count and how many players might be online.

Will we at some point maybe get an scriptable API or in-game service to hide/censor content like extreme gore or alcohol beverages if the user’s account is not 17+ verified?

In a war or fighting game some might still want 13+ users to be able to play but turn down the level of gore and replace things like bottles that contain alcohol with juice instead.

very lovely, can’t wait to see how many people will actually do this without being weirded out because nobody’s ever needed to do such a thing simply to play games with “permissions” to add blood and gore already allowed to most triple As and many existing games already on the platform.

in other news, is this keywords for allowing explicit/sexual content in nature on the game now? if you guys don’t remember, the founder himself was down to add such features in the future and this is the super secret way of doing so!!!

ladies and gentlemen, will condo games be the next big thing on roblox?!?

That moment when you have to be 17+ to see fictional Lego characters kiss. Never knew that Ninjago was 17+ until now, thanks for the insight, Roblox! :skull:

Are you guys doing everything in your power to push away adults from playing Roblox? Because it sure seems like you are. Roblox isn’t trustworthy, and your efforts to keep the platform “safe” always end up hurting everybody EXCEPT the bad actors. When will you realize that you are going all about it wrong? It’s causing people to not wanna support you.

Example is my family. We used to somewhat trust you, until you terminated my 10 year old brother’s account, which we had put actual money into. Why was it terminated? He inserted UTG into his game, not knowing that it had bad things in it. And when my mother tried appealing, it was refused. He wasn’t given a chance to explain his situation. He inserted a product that was on your OFFICIAL MARKETPLACE, not knowing the issues with it, and was terminated without second thought. No temp bans, warnings, anything. That destroyed your trustworthiness in our eyes. Even when he wants to, none of us EVER let him spend money on Roblox, because you ruined your trust. And now you have the gall to ask for serious personal information, including GOVERNMENT ID and a selfie?!? All to play slightly aged up games, use voice chat, and be seen easier on your crappy version of LinkedIn (which has the same crappy filter as <13 text chat by the way)? Heck no.

You said you would overhaul moderation years ago, yet people are getting terminated for being in proximity of someone using voice chat. You ban people for saying “gay”, even when it’s not being used in a negative context. You ban people for using assets that were on your marketplace. Yet you actively refuse to ban less savory developers (not specifying, as you were deleting posts that were vaguely specific), until you receive significant public backlash.

You only vaguely respond to any criticism, or delete it. But you feel free to like the posts of people who completely agree with you. We KNOW now that you see us and choose to ignore us. That’s one of the most immature things a corporation can do. You cant age up your audience when you yourself refuse to mature.

All in all, this is a bad update. It could’ve been good, but you chose to play it too safe, killing off potential.

I have this reply in my clipboard, so if you try and take down criticism like you’ve done before, I can simply repost it. So don’t try that.
