Creator Spotlight: How Qwelver Dreamed Up Dandy’s World

Will there be labubu???

Yes; one of the Developers was a pedophile. Once accusations were confirmed they were promptly fired, however!

Not exactly an ideal game to put under the spotlight.

This game is kinda boring imo, but to each their own I guess.

why would this be in the creator spotlight

i mean dandy’s world is a giant roblox game

Their creator “Qwel” was just recently outed as stealing community creations as their owns and doing whatever with it and ignoring any demands from the original creators lol.

this!

I can agree the game is styled like those games, but the core loop is identical to Minus Descendance. (not sure if you’ve played it, but they’re very similar) Though, the gameplay loop is similar to those mentioned games.

It’s nice to see a game that is somewhat polished be pushed here along with the Qwels story on how she made the game, although the comments were what were expected.

I’ll try to stay on topic on how I feel on the game without leaning towards drama’s or controversies.

I play this game often (mainly because of it’s progression) and learning about how it was made was interesting, including how rooms are set up and how spawns are placed. The game has a good gameplay loop and I do think people should praise it more for it’s progression.

What I do feel like Dandys World could work on is it’s gameplay, it’s very small and only requires skill-checks on machines or distracting. This leaves supports (Tisha, Sprout, Cosmo) doing nothing, which isn’t fun at all. I also feel like most Twisteds don’t have much mechanics to make them fun. All of the recent event twisteds (aside from Bassie) are either the same as a Common or slightly faster.

I also wish that the game had a tutorial because it’s very unfriendly to new players, and that it at least tries to advertise itself more seriously because from the outside it just looks like a flashy game for kids to waste their time on.

I think more balancing (Main Character - Only Servers) would also help.

Qwelver listens to both her community and dev team members feedback. That’s why I always enjoy working with them. I think this is a good example of a top game where the creator and dev team are always within reach for feedback and help from the players while being humble about their success. :grinning:

Can you explain why Qwel takes control of community submissions, refuses to answer demands from the original character owners and the rox situation?

Yes, no, and probably for personal reasons from what I understand.

It would be better off if Qwel herself spoke out rather being silent since this is like the second biggest controversy after that person was outed.

This is probably not the appropriate place to start that kind of discussion. Feel free to message me though, I am curious.

It looks to me like there’s an LGBTQ+ flag there?

It’s a rainbow flag that’s commonly displayed usually for aesthetics and possibly for Dandys color scheme, and either way it wouldn’t matter of there was a LGBTQ+ flag here, theres no need to point it out.

Notice how the amount of replies are close to the amount of hearts of this topic than usual

It is a fairly popular game with a fair amount of critisms on the game and developers themselves, I’d honestly be suprised if there werent alot of people commenting on this

I believe because there has been a lot of stories over the past year about it, but not a lot of “fighting” by the owner and developers. Knowing the team personally, I understand why they choose not to participate in any criticism wars with others online. It just waste time and creates stress for no gain really. They all have devforum accounts here, so if they really wanted to wade into these types of discussions, they could at any time. I don’t speak for them, but I can say from my personal interactions with them, they focus more on the community and the game, less on any drama surrounding it.

Thanks for replying! I can see where they come from honestly, and I’m glad they focus on their game and try to please the community (having regular polls on what they’d like) and with Dandys World it has made me wonder on how do people deal and feel about their communities in general while working on their projects (A video from an indie-show from 2 years ago made me think about it and helped me with fears when I launch a game and hopefully get an audience or community if I’m lucky.

I’m glad they feel happy working on the game and are fine listening to the community, even with all that’s happen since release, it takes alot to do mentally.
