"Display name is not appropriate for Roblox"

Yet you are allowed to name yourself as “OhioMeth” and that is allowed

(it’s still marked as inappropriate if any wants to know)

this has to be a bug, can roblox moderation really be this simple? its like its not even trying.

Yeah, hopefully an admin sees this again and notifies it to others and hopefully patch this because you can name yourself a lot of things that are inappropriate and against TOS but not simple allowed names such as “Bacon”

I have that problem too but with my username not the display name!

I changed my Nickname from HeroGamerGabby to ZephyrVerrater. But i changed my mind, but if i go to change the new to the old (HeroGamerGabby).

This is the result:

I’ve contacted multiple times Roblox but all that they say is to check the ToS and the Community Standart which i saw and nothing is bad with that.

I did the same thing but was told many times to just wait for a week and then I can change my displayname, and that they cannot shorten it for me. But that was not what I said at all.

Can confirm this issue still exists

Hey everyone!! I’m opening this back up to see if we can get some help with it. Apologies for closing - I asked previously if it was intended and thought it when I got confirmation. But I’ll send to the engineers to make sure.

This is done to stop people from impersonating verified content creators, so why can’t we y’know, put the star creator symbol in game chats and website profiles?

Check

This was before star creators had the ability to change usernames with employees

Also those usernames have now been claimed by alt accounts which are not verified likely to remove the username as far as i know (Unless it changed again)

I’m just saying that I’m surprised that the star creator logo doesn’t appear on website profiles or game chats (like the verified badge).

all hell breaks loose when I get a checkmark

The issue is anything can be faked. It would be a good solution but this isn’t really related to the bug report and exploiters would probably find a loophole like they did with the checkmark

Hi folks, there’s a lot of good discussion in this post so wanted to give an update. The expected behavior is that current/previous usernames of protected users are not allowed as display names for others. This is why seemingly appropriate names are not being allowed in some cases (like Apple/Bacon/etc.).

Agreed that the error message phrasing is misleading and implies that these names are profane/inappropriate. Will take this back to the team, work on updating, and update here once that’s in place.

Regarding the name HeroGamerGabby: this name was incorrectly being moderated previously, but should now be available for you again

This unfortunately is not a bug, but is a glitch that people are abusing within Roblox. If someone has the Verified checkmark, and their username or display name contains “Bacon”, you CANNOT use that in yours, which is a good idea in thought, but since people abuse it, is not good.

I believe this is only for usernames. Like if a verified person contains the username “Example” then nobody can use it as a display name

However no verified person owned the username “Bacon” at the time it got reported. It was only after a youtuber has received the username by Roblox Staff

I believe this change was reverted but since the username “Bacon” still shows up as previous username, it does still detect it

I still don’t know why the word Bacon was originally blocked because it wasn’t owned by a verified creator

In my opinion, common words shouldn’t be blocked and this wouldn’t cause any impersonation issues because:

  • The word/phrasing is so common that many people have it already
  • Nobody can truly impersonate someone with a common display name as nobody would identify it as “famous”
    • Display names like “haz3mn” should be blocked as example

I believe this verification process is automated. However, they should be able to manually unblock certain words if those seem way too common

Obviously names like “Mrflimflam” or “DenisDaily” need to be protected by usernames like “Bacon” or “Supreme” are common names or phrases.

I agree that you shouldn’t be able to use the same display-/username as someone who is verified to prevent impersonation, but what I also think should be changed is that common words and names shouldn’t be blocked, even if someone who is verified has that name (UNLESS they add something else to it: like “Bacon” shouldn’t be blocked, but if someone verified has “SomeRandomBacon” as their user, it SHOULD because it’s not just that one common word/name and it stands out more).
I hope I explained my thought well enough for others to understand.
