Hello everyone,
I would like to show you a game under development I have been working on with @Redridge. It is going to be an endless runner game where players run inside an endless tower, competing against their friends. We are focusing a lot on the music and the visual effects the game offers.
We kindly ask you for feedback regarding:
The lobby menu visuals
The game mechanics (Jumping and Strafing)
The game music
Just to be clear, there are many aspects that are missing. This post is purely to ask for some feedback regarding the elements that are currently present.
For the moment the game can only be played on PC. The controls are:
Jump - Space
Strafe - W/D or Left/Right Arrows
You can view the game here: Beat Runner, and please make any suggestions you see fit.
Also, here are some screenshots and a video so that you can understand the general concept of the game.
Well, the starting screen is awesome but the animations for the character are a bit too static, and some of the positions are awkward. Otherwise, It looks pretty cool!
that is very nicely made, very punchy and vibrant colouring thrown at the user (which I like) very nice use of detailing and furniture in the main “lobby”, nicely done
@infiniteRaymond
Hmm yes the idle animations might need a little bit of refining, but for the most part, a static view was what we were aiming for. When you get groups of 10s of people, they will all stand in the same lobby, sitting.
As for the coin sound, I just thought it sounds satisfying. Thank you for the feedback
The game is really decently well made! The character animation is nice however when other characters join are there going to be sitting in empty sitting tables? Sound effects fit the Sci-fi approach i likely liked playing it since it features proper mechanics and a enjoyable gameplay.
I’ve tested the game on a mobile device, the controls where quite hard and not properly done i feel like when the game starts speeding up it’ll be hard for players to turn left and right or jump since there “small”.
However since it’s still not fully made for mobile devices i’m assuming that’ll be worked on later down the line. When playing a few rounds, my ‘character animation’ got stuck and starting floating through buildings when clicking the “Ready” button.
For the game music you may want to implement a mute button, just for users to mute the music for unknown reasons. At the start everything seems to be well put together sound effects are nice perhaps include different aircraft with sightly different effects; best of luck on your project!
I love it. I really like the amount of polish that went into the lobby/title screen and the core mechanics. The futuristic vehicles that zoom by and the pulsing of the runner to the beat of the music are both fantastically done.
Currently, when you die/lose you immediately get returned to the lobby. I would appreciate some more feedback, perhaps an end screen that shows your score, high scores, perhaps how you stack up against other players in the lobby, some sort of progress indicator (I assume you’ll have an XP/progression system - it’s alright if you don’t, though).
Overall, I was pretty impressed. Great work so far.
(Only watched the video)
The mix of Chinese, Japanese, and English in the lobby is a bit of a weird choice but it’s blended nicely.
The noise of coins, as stated by someone before, I don’t really like. The sound feels very out of place, is just a bit too loud, and I’ve heard that specific noise so many times that it just gets annoying fast.
Lastly, the game concept seems like it’d get repetitive quickly without more elements to it or game modes.
@PuffoThePufferfish To be honest we feel like the coins sound satisfying, since a little “bling” should suffice. Maybe it’s because we haven’t played many Roblox Games and it is an overused sound. Good thing you brought this to attention though, we will think about it more.
Yes it would get repetitive if it was just as much as it currently is. But this is only a basic mechanics preview, we have a lot of features planned. Thank you for the feedback.
I absolutely love this game. Only thing I dislike is the run animation in game, and the fact that mobile support barely exists. The buttons are too tiny to press, even with my tiny fingers lol
Edit: Just realised that I can make my own episode of boundary break by opening the game with vr. It’s really cool how you used perspective to make it look like a full city when its not even a full city, just a chip of one. Also, the cars that are flying just crash LOL
@infiniteRaymond, We are planning on adding a bigger variation of animations (not only run, but jump animations as well), but for the moment we are focusing on the core of the game.
We know about the mobile support being non-existent, it is because the game is still in development. It’s not that much of a hard task, but we are still focusing on other aspects of the game . Don’t worry, it will be working when the game releases.
Wow, this is cool! I didn’t know you were able to do that, haha. Yeah the city was built for that scene specifically only. But that will also be improved in time, creating a big variety of lobbies.
Also, I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to review the game more times to see how it updates, in order to write more feedback. Hope you give more feedback in the future as well .
Also, happy devforum anniversary! Lol, hope you keep up the work.
I didn’t know if you could see it in the video but when I was looking behind me when playing, it showed my character floating in space along with the moon lol
Finally a unique game that i’ve been longing for. The design looks pretty cool, gameplay is very awesome, although maybe add a purpose for the coins (if there isn’t one) like they can be used for to buy something.
I can already see this in the front page. Keep up the good work!
I would suggest making the obstacles a bit more in-sync with the rhythm, but anyways, just know this game is great and I would love to see more games like this!
@Pizzaholt and @RemadeAlternative thanks for the feedback. I know it was a couple of months ago but we’ve been busy with other stuff too . However we have worked on pretty much everything that was mentioned here, and we are back now with a more complete game and new features.
If any of you guys that already shared his opinion could let us know, what you think about the current version of the game, that would be great !
