Feedback on my sniper rifle

I know it looks really weird without cleaning it up and this is how you do that:

First I’d go to object data properties (three green dots near the bottom right), go to normals and check autosmooth. You can increase the angle if it’s not smoothing the right areas

Increase the subdivision levels to 2 in the viewport

You can see that the modifier sort of pulls in all the edges to smoothen them so selecting the edges or edge loops with alt left click and then hitting Shift+E will let you sharpen the edges up. You don’t want to do this everywhere or do it all the way because then you might as well not have the modifier. OR you could use Ctrl+R to add edge loops and slide them to the edges you want to keep sharp but it increases the triangle count.

Leave it lowpoly I think it would look a lot more clean. lowpoly looks good even if it is something usually hi-poly. :+1:

It needs more detail on the sides it looks bland.
I’m not an expert on guns but It needs 2 colors to make it more interesting, and detailed.

It also looked like the smooth shading is messing with the sides I suggest adding another loop cut on the gun itself.

Anyways great work in blender, Looking forward to see what you can do in the future!

Maybe only use the modifier on the main body but leave auto smooth checked for everything. That part on the front bottom is most likely an issue with topology. Try selecting everything in edit mode and hitting M > By distance to get rid of it. Or you could search for duplicate/extra vertices in that area.
I’m also confused as to why you have a fluid modifier

I joined the barrel, body, and scope together in order to texture it, and I’m not aware of how to un-join a mesh, so yea.

Go into edit mode, select a part of what you want to separate. Then hit L or Ctrl+L if that doesn’t work to select linked, or all of the part. Once you have that selected hit P and then selection
