Feedback on this New Game I´ve made!

Hello developers.

Since I have nothing much to do, I´ve decided to make a game in 2 days, based on The Long Drive game and others (in description).

Any kind of feedback or suggestion is much appreciated!

Tried out the experience for 10-15ish minutes, and I can say I like it! It has lots of potential.

The environment is very nice, even though it could use some improvements when it comes to lighting, especially when nighttime falls! At night, nothing can be seen except light sources, which is somewhat unrealistic, but I do not know if it’s an intentional feature.

The vehicle is hilarious, especially the wheels , but the startup process can be a little lengthy! Some sound improvements to the startup process would be great, like a couple failed tries of ignition, like real life.

On the topic of the vehicle, the camera could use some improvement, and the handling, especially the max speed, throttle and breaking process. But it’s a very nice start.

Gameplay wise, the concept is simple, I enjoy it a lot, but just after 10-15 minutes of gameplay, I started loosing interest, which is important for a successful game. The night duration was too long compared to the daytime, which the complete darkness factor helps in, and generally the purpose wasn’t really visible.

Adding a starting screen, which explains some of the background/lore, would be great. Lore is a very nice part to include, and in my opinion, very easy to in such a game. The main menu screen also needs a little bit of UX work.

Adding some survival and prep factors would make the game 10 times better! I understand you are a beginner, but it would be great if you invested in learning how to add such features. Hunger/thirst/rest counters would be nice to see, forcing the player to eventually exit their vehicle and explore. Perhaps… some dangerous elements would be worth it as well, like enemies, traps etc.

On the prep factor, preparing before leaving your house is something fun to do. Perhaps choosing 3-5 items to have with you before leaving to help with your survival and trip would be nice.

Also, as a very small notice, the “teleport to car” proximity duration is a bit long, lowering it or making it instant would be very appreciated.

Now to close, I liked the experience! It has EXTREMELY great potential, especially in the state it is right now. Considering adding more gameplay-wise features yourself or with a team will make the game very great.

I tried to be as honest, since I know honest reviews help make experiences great.

At night generally, nothing other than the placed light sources can be seen making the player’s first experience confusing.
To top it off, the volume difference is incredibly high especially when you’re turning on the car.

The game either needs a tutorial or either some sort of a heads-up when playing the game. A lot of people like me practically don’t read the game’s meaning and the idea.

I gave up when my car just abandoned me and drove away

Thank you very much @porttoport and @oliwieer4 for your suggestions and have enjoyed my game. Now to answer some of your questions.

  • Yes, the very dark night is intentional
  • The sound definitely needed some improvement (hopefully fixed now)
  • The lore might be implemented…
  • Enemies are already in the game (just updated them)
  • “Teleport to car” has been reduced to a faster time
  • Like the hunger Idea or preparation idea. Might add it later
  • I think a tutorial is not needed, since you just have to follow the road to reach the end.
  • To car driving away, you just reset and use the teleport button at the start… (for now at least)

Thank you again
