Fonts And More Fonts

I think the only font I really want is Dez Petranian. Would be good for an MMORPG like mine.

Except the effectiveness of that varies wildly depending upon what typeface you use. I would rather upload decals for a monospaced display font such as LCD SH instead of a variable-width font such as Dez Petranian.

A very curious preferenceā€¦ Personally I wouldnā€™t want to have to to script something that would allow me to edit a paragraph of text taking into account scale, padding, alignment, etc as well as having to contain hundreds (if not thousands) of image labels in an easy to use and convenient way when I can set the .Text property and get better results for any font. It would also appear most other developers here share that view, since LCD SH has a large proportion of the vote.

ā€œI wouldā€

yeah but not everyone is you

Iā€™d rather have it as a font

  1. JollyGood
  2. Cover Sans
  3. Jotia
  4. Decour Soft
  5. Dez Petranian

Cover Sans, VTG Stencil, Decour Soft, Delm, Joltia (medium weight).

I would recommend Roboto too, as it is one of my favorite fonts.

My personal picks:

  1. Decour Soft
  2. Jotia
  3. JollyGood
  4. Delm
  5. Pixelar

In order:

  1. Dez Petranian - fantasy game text
  2. Stencil - roman chiseled text
  3. Baboon - old western posters
  4. VTG Stencil - army crate / stamped text
  5. Pixelar - retro game text

Some of the fonts on the big list are too similar to arial or source sans.

Iā€™d love Cantarell https://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Cantarell and Lato http://www.latofonts.com/lato-free-fonts/ too. Another cool one Iā€™d love, Futura https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/paratype/futura-book/ (licencing is quite vague though, probably not suitable due to it if I read just the web licence).
And some proper monospaced font suitable for rendering code too, of course ;). Source Code Pro: https://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Source+Code+Pro

I actually hate Roboto and use Stylebot to replace it wherever I see it. Itā€™s just too thin for me and gives me a headache trying to read it.

Roboto is available in plenty of weights. Itā€™s not the fontā€™s fault if someone uses too light of a weight for what theyā€™re doing.

@Den_S I second Source Code Pro! Would be very useful for consoles, table layouts, etc.

@Den_S I third Source Code Pro for the same reason ScrapYard seconded it!

I was gonna suggest that too. Love the condensed versions.

Source code Pro does not seem useful to me. Itā€™s named that way for a reason. Itā€™s a font designed for writing code. YMMV.

I will look into Roboto.

Futura does not look great.

Any standard monospaced font would be great, something like Roboto monospaced.

Eurostile is a really nice font that is used in the popular Elite: Dangerous game. It looks ā€œhigh techā€ and I can see it fitting well with a lot of games like Phantom Forces for example.
