In our game Aftermath, we are using voice chat to allow verified players to communicate with eachother. This kind of game requires a certain degree of stealth. Sometimes I may want to chat with my friends, but other times I may want to sneak up behind players without them knowing I am there.
With voice chat being enabled (but muted), the voice chat icon appears above my characters head, for all to see. This is not ideal if I am behind a wall, or in a bush, etc, as players can spot me without me actually talking.
Is there a way to disable this? I want to keep allowing players to communicate with eachother, but if their microphone is muted, I want to hide the microphone icon above their head.
In short, there doesn’t seem to be a way. I’d recommend making a feature request. The icon above the character’s head disables or is supposed to when voice chat is Muted (by the player?). But, there’s no way, from what I’ve found, to disable the UI when the player is talking/using voice chat actively.
The last source was the only thing close, but that “speaker icons remain” part makes me think there’s no way to disable it, and that it’s intentionally that way.
A workaround might be available when not using a Humanoid, or I think that’s what this quote below is getting at here:
Note though that the quote above is 2 years old and there’s been a lot of development on Voice Chat since. So, in all, I think making a feature request for your use case is the go-to. It might be considered a duplicate, despite the updated info you’d bring.
