About The Job

We are looking for a professional 3D modeler to join our train development team long-term. We expect high quality models that adhere to our style. Good communication skills are required; our project manager, brand designer and myself will all be in regular contact with you to inform the required level of detail as well as providing detailed information on interior layout which may be difficult to obtain from Google searches alone.

You don’t need to be an expert in trains, you just need to be a proficient modeler with vector mapping experience to apply the train liveries. We have a network of subject matter experts who we can call upon for additional guidance, information and diagrams as required. You will have direct access to this team as necessary to confirm geometry and details.

We expect each train to take around 10-20 hours of work, but we understand you may have other commitments and are looking for around one train (or set for similar trains) every 2-4 weeks. Work will be on a freelance contractor basis with flexible hours and payment per deliverable.

Here is a few examples of our style (click to enlarge):

We have a further 4-5 trains that are not yet released but can be used for additional style guidance that we will share with successful candidates who reach the interview stage.

Candidate Requirements

  • Good English communication skills and self-organisation.
  • Experience replicating 3D objects in modelling software based on diagrams, photographs and videos.
  • Experience applying textures via a UV map in an efficient manner with solid colours. Any shaping will be achieved by cutting faces.
  • Applicants under 16 will need guardian consent and may require a guardian to sign the contract.

There are no timezone or location requirements. The job is fully remote and you will be working independently most of the time.

Payment Terms

We are currently offering £150 GBP per completed unique model.
This is around $207 USD at time of writing.

Some train classes are extremely similar (for example the Class 387 and 377 in picture 3 in the About section. There are minor interior and livery differences between the two, but much of the geometry is identical. For these “families” of trains, we are offering an additional £20-40 GBP for each additional variant based on its complexity.

This payment is deliverable-based, and will be paid in full upon completion of the agreed deliverable. The exact payment amount is to be agreed between both parties in advance of any work commencing.

We have a number of options for how to receive payment to be selected upon hiring, including direct bank transfer (domestic and international), PayPal, and card payment (via invoice).

How to Apply

Please send in an application with the following pieces of information:

  1. Your full name
  2. Your birth year
  3. Your Roblox username (please create an account if you don’t already have one)
  4. Your current timezone.
  5. Your typical expected availability per week.
  6. A CV or list of previous work relevant to the position.
  7. (optional) Up to 2 references, ideally previous clients.
  8. (optional) 3D model file of an object you modelled and UV map textured.

There’s a few different ways to send it in. The order of my contact details below is from most to least preferred:

Please don’t apply via any other means - it is highly likely your application will be lost otherwise.

There is no specific deadline, however we will begin the selection process from 28 April onwards. Take the time to put together a suitable portfolio that displays the full extent of your abilities.

We may accept multiple candidates for the position depending on experience and availability of each candidate. We aim to reply to each candidate within 3 weeks of applying.
