How can I improve this running animation and make it look more lively?

I’m trying to get into 3D animation in studio and I’ve made a running animation. I’m not really happy with it and I think that it can use a lot of improvements.

Add more high and low points on the character, also a bit of rotation to the torso towards where the arms are going will help.

Watch this video to understand leg movement in animation, it teach walk and run animation and others, it is really really helpful. Just copy the pose in the video and easing with it, add more easing and you should be good. But I still recommended watching the whole video.

That is how I learn animation btw

It kind of looks likes he’s speed walking. I recommend playing around with the EasingStyles and EasingDirections. It can bring your animation to life more, instead of it being linear.

It’s too snappy. Make it smoother.

It’s all in the speed and rotation! When you move, it isn’t always at a constant speed, there’s always acceleration and deceleration, especially the legs. Using video references, images of important keyframes helped me when I started animating. Using easing styles like what the others in this post have said is easier but not required!

Example,
The legs always land with impact so it decelerates a bit then it kicks back with acceleration in an explosive manner. After that, you pull the leg, that accelerates the leg to the front and land with impact again, and repeat.

The torso is never stable when running forward, it’s always going up and down depending on the leg movements. I always start with the torso then the legs when animating walking & running movement.

I can understand that, but since I’m a bit new I can’t just make it smoother because I don’t know how, so it would be helpful if you’d tell me how I can make it smoother.

Change the easing styles and directions of the keyframes.

Put the arms higher and change direction they are swinging to.

its slidy and idk why, i would move the torso down and make it hunched over a bit and add height variations

This animation looks good so far, the arms are too low though, raise them up a bit. Otherwise, that’s all that needs to be fixed, nice job on this!
