I find it hard to start off a building structure and knowing how to build it so it looks decent and cool.
Draw it out, then start building in studio. That’s what I always do.
Thanks for the advice. Really appreciate it.
I start off by drawing a somewhat blueprint to create a design. I then start with the entrance and then the walls, windows, then the floors, and so on. I can show you an image of a blueprint I made in paint and what I made in studio.
Here is the paint version

I hope this helped!
Normally when I’m creating things or ways to start off you always want to start by gathering a few reference images of real life building things that (inspire you in a kind of way).
Do research, find what material is used how the interior and, exterior looks. Start planning out your build if they’re the ones your looking for. You’ll get inspired by real structures before beginning to create large buildings. My small recommendation would be using reference images to see how the layout, design, material, color pallet and the overall feel you would like start off.
Consider sketching in a drawing software on a way you want it to look like write down what materials or used to make it feel good and decent and not something throw together in your own imagination. Draw the foundation in the shape of the building you want to make. Here is a thread that’s about planning it may come in handy down the line:
What I was thought was first do the frame of the structure and then carry on to how you want to build it with whatever material you want to you.
I am extremely particular when I build. Normally I use my drafting/architectural experience to draw out a scaled floor plan. I find that the most important thing to do when building a structure to make sure it is properly scaled.
It usually only takes a few minutes to create a basic floor plan. Then I think about what design do I want? Do I want a Rustic or Modern etc. Then I will look up reference pictures even blueprints to compare to my own drawing. Then after that, I will build everything I can with primitive parts then go on to make meshes if needed.
Stuff I also like to add
- Custom Textures
- Plants
- Particle Effects
Note: (Don’t be afraid to use free models if you need to. If you can’t figure out how to make a nice chair for a cafe build just use free models they are a perfect resource that is public domain.)
It tends to be easier when you find pictures online to get the base shape you like.
Then you want to make a rough version of it.
- Find pictures of buildings you like (Find bits you would like to include)
- Make a rough version of the building (Very basic, see if sizing is good)
- Start from the ground up externally and change the rough version
- Make the basics of the interior (Walls, lights, doors)
- Set up your lighting and tweak it as needed
- Fine details (Roof tiles, floors)
- Furnishings (Objects that will be inside e.g tables / radiators / curtains)
Depends you could start on whatever feels comfortable to you. Building a cafe or a sort of building should be planned out you should start with the foundation or base and then build your way up, gather a few reference images to have by your side to get a unique design and structure.
I’m assuming you got a layout in your head or in a drawing software on how your wanting it, but I feel you should start finding things you more comfortable with start with the frame or shapes first there are many ways to achieve a building structure there isn’t a wrong way in doing it.
Consider starting simple then start figuring your building layout: If you’re trying to plan the layout of your build by using a blueprint, you can either use a painting software to do a quick sketch or use a image in general. That all being said, i would try finding a layout and begin building your foundation or frame of the structure. Whatever works best to you.
Hey, before creating any form of build you should always have a plan or some form of sketch to follow so that it does not turn into a huge mess. Also make sure that it looks consistent and make sure everything from design to colors are able to fit together.
