First half of the video: What I want. The little rectangular prisms look like they’re pointing down.
Second half of the video: What I have now. It looks flat and two dimensional, I can’t tell which way they’re going.
So how could I make it, so the highlights have a sense of direction? Or maybe something else can be done? Thanks!
The ‘FillTransparency’ property of the highlight has one color only, meaning it will look flat. Although if I’m not wrong, you could achieve the effect that I believe you wanted with Cel Shading techniques:

How To: Cel Shading Effect
Also called cell shading and cartoon shading, you might have seen this cool effect before in some showcases:
[Cel Shading 2]
Below I’ll show you how to change your lighting settings to get this effect.

Instructions
Open Lighting in the properties window
View > PropertiesView > Explorer > Lighting
Change the FogStart and FogEnd to very large values (~100000)
(Properties) Lighting > FogStart, FogEnd
Change the FogColor to about <250000…
I don’t think those fog settings exist, at least I couldn’t find them :p
Thanks for the suggestion though :D

maybe change the shape? Make them more like triangles that get thinner on one side? (or perhaps use arrows?
I think when they are semitransparent, it allows for a decent sese of depth.
