Hey man I got nothing against metatables I use them all the time. You dont need to argue for them.
I’m just trying to be mindful of intention before we go suggesting a solutions of higher complexity! No point in involving metatables if a simple table storing a function or a function return checks all the boxes. 
Well, the reason I pointed that out is because it perfectly fits with what he was trying to achieve.
Ye its a valid thing to mention of possible solutions.
But we still don’t know why he wants to do it this way.
It presents a potential XY problem which is why I originally said its about the time to start asking those kind of questions. It wasn’t really meant as a disagreement to the usage of MTs as a whole to this problem. Just to ask more about the problem.
I just like doing it that way.
