Sorry, I didn’t mean to
i found a collection of models from mw2, but thanks anyways
Don’t use assets that are ripped from games illegally.
may i ask why it is a bad idea?
Because copyright laws apply to those assets.
It’s theirs.
uneducated? not trying to start an argument but you are the one who is telling them to use free models they can have viruses and deleting the scripts might not always work they can be very well hidden and sometimes its already to late
also free models are just low effort and lazy you should make the models your self or learn how to if you cant
there are many good assets and models you can find but that’s only for beginners if you really want to start developing you have to make the models or hire someone to
just saying don’t call people uneducated if you dont know what your talking about
You already sound so educated by making the statement you just made. There are tons of good free models and if you actually took the time to look at my dev forum you would see that most likely I am more advanced than you in the scope of development.
Yes but models from teh Toolbox might have Copyright, you don’t want to get DMCA Reported, right?
And they also can have viruses
And stop insulting people for saying the truth
It’s not an insult it’s as easy as removing any of the malicious scripts and welds and then doing a check for copyright and you are good.
The idea that free models are bad comes from the Roblox community but if you ask any developers outside of Roblox they will tell you that using available assets is okay. I think of the Roblox toolbox as a more unmoderated unity asset store.
So you are telling me taht this:
?
Also free models are almost always bad because:
- They can have viruses very well hidden, if you use them as assets on your Gane they might open back doors
- They can be copyrighted which can get you DMCA Reported
- They already do teh work for you, so you don’t learn
Correct
Correct
I usually check the whole model, and delete literally anything I see that isn’t what I expected the model to be.
You do have a point, but using the toolbox can be ok sometimes.
the truth is that the models are so cute that they look like me and apparently the mechanics look good
Yes it can be okay, but if you sue it only to get your Gane done and don’t even check them it’s bad use, you should simply dissect their code/build and see how they’re down to learn
Here is me debunking all of your points:
- Using a for loop in the command bar can get rid of all hidden viruses by searching through welds and scripts and deleting them
- Do a copyright check to avoid DMCA
- Lastly free models such as FE gun kit and ACS is how most people learn to make a gun system in the first place.
Conclusion:
I advise you to please understand and take some time to truly realize that using free assets is something that most every indie developer does and it is fine as long as you are not violating copyright law and doing most of the work yourself. Freemodel = bad is a stigma that Roblox developers have created that does not hold up in the real development world.
The problem is that most people use it only to get their Game down and don’t even try to understand
How can free models contain copyrighted assets? The only thing that my be copyrighted are decals, sounds, or built logos. You just seem like another person that learned from the non-developers which think the toolbox is bad, despite it being a great tool.
A model can contain them, that’s why it can have Copyright
Well it’s not my problem if you’re messing with the toolbox without even checking.
Why would I even do that?
Last time I used something from the Toolbox was like 1 month ago, I don’t even check teh Toolbox anymore (I only did today to check for how people is able to make swords with Corner Wedges
, but it seems like it’s impossible…)
I said that other people most of the time do it
