I need something to spice up my simulator

I’m working on “Knifing Simulator”. In this game you kill NPC’s to rack up coins. With coins you can get better knives. Once you have the best knife in the area and a certain amount of coins you can purchase the next area. Then said area has different NPC’s that give more coins when you kill them.

This is repetitive and boring. To try and make it more interesting I made it so each knife has a special ability, there is a randomly spawning boss, player PVP zones, king of the hill, and some items you can collect that help you, such as: grappling hook, soda, and chips.

This may sound interesting, but in reality it just isn’t that fun. Any ideas on how I can make it more interesting?

Seems you’re looking to branch it out of the “simulator” cliche
Considered making it something of a PvE/PvP survival with a linear simulator-ish progression grind, or a classic combat game?

I actually like this idea. I’m trying to make sure to have some safe zones with NPC’s to help out young or unexperienced players. I’ll make most of it PVP though. I also like the linear style instead of portals, sounds like it’ll look better and just feel cleaner. Thanks for the insight.

Generic…
Your only way out is either make it truly better than an ordinary simulator or you’ll need to spend a lot of robux on ads.

Well, I’ll try my hardest to make it better than average. So far I’d say it’s a decent amount better than average. I’m kind of hoping that the boss fights carry the game.

What about randomly generated dungeons? They get harder per area of the simulator, and if your game has some sort of loot/item system, this would work well.

Personally I think that there so many games specifically like yours. I think the only way to spice it up is to make it unique and different from other simulators to make it stand out

Hey, young man, do you usually aim for a 70/100 in tests and expect to get a good job? You can’t compare yourself to the thugs on the street, it’s not your goal, right? You want to make it GOOD. Therefore you must aim yourself to be the BEST. Compare your game to Bee Swarm, Pet Sim, Legend of Speed…
Now, are you AS GOOD?
If that’s a no, should you try HARDER?
Nobody cares about excuses like you being a solo dev or too poor to make ads, the players only cares about the result, and YOU’LL need to show them, WHY they should play your game instead of the popular simulators. BE the BEST!
JUST DO IT.
