shouldn’t they be straight up banned off the platform? i really hope this is just bad wording and not an admission that the mods just straight up do nothing
Just finished reading through the metadata best practices and I have to say…
Thank you, thank you so much for cracking down on this specifically. This has been the bane of my existence when I’m just trying to find new games that interest me.
My new game Eternal Frontiers (<150 visits) now shows up on the fifth row of search instead of 27th, thanks Roblox!
A scam game only needs to be up long enough for it to serve its goal. Pushing it down in the algorithm makes it more difficult for it to do so before it’s moderated, which can take time even with an outright ban.
It’d be nice if you could crack down on AI-generated thumbnails too given how they’re usually associated with low quality games, but I understand that it’d be very hard to detect that sort of thing without it leading to some false positives. Either way though, good update, hopefully this is the end for Ro-slop :0
All my thoughts on AI aside, I think this kinda falls under inaccurate thumbnails, right? A lot of AI thumbnails show things that aren’t even in the game. While if someone actually goes to the effort of inpainting like mad to make it accurate, at that point they’re clearly making some effort so ig just let them
Something I’d like to suggest is a banner on games that may be scams (eg. FREE ROBUX OBBY) that warns players that games cannot give free Robux, along with faster moderation action on them. I’ve had to warn my siblings many times that no, a game cannot give you Robux and that you should report one if you see one, but our reports barely do anything.
Yeah I get what you mean, I mostly mean the low-effort purely AI thumbnails
I’m glad with this update, one of the biggest issues with the frontpage has been things like repetition and too many experiences and games that look too similar or have a similar formula.
This seems to be working well when I search for a game, I see much less irrelevant results (definitely not 0). However when some terms are directly searched such as “robux”, we can still see a lot of low effort or possibly misleading games. Unless of course, games which use the Robux name but does not directly offer any free robux are allowed and considered not spam (such as the obbies which have Robux icons)
Overall, a nice and much required change.
I have an old version of a game on this account, and a new version on my group. They aren’t identical, but does the old version stop the new version from getting discovered? If it does, will privating the old version fix it?
Something that would be useful here is to let developers know what specifically is getting their game hidden when preparing a game for release. While I understand the sentiment that following trends shouldn’t be hidden, it no doubt may have some edge cases where your system mistakes an original game for “low quality content”.
The other question in my head is if this reduces the competitiveness of the website. If someone wants to make a game within the same genre as another game, wouldn’t having similar icons and thumbnails make sense? I think for developers who are looking to create their next breakout title there needs to be a lot more transparency here.
The quote below also rings some alarms. If a developer were to release a game that is a spin off of a genre, and another bigger developer saw it and released another spin off, would they be pushed forward more in the algorithm than the original creator? It sounds like this update would allow existing large developers to benefit more from the algorithm than smaller developers.
first I wanna say Im really glad this is being addressed, I would like to see more original ideas and not see 10 slightly different clones of skibidi toilet nonsense scattered across the front page.
however I have 1 concern:
if a game appears original but is still a basic and boring concept will roblox detect this? so far I understand a game needs to have original thumbnails, descriptions and titles. but what about gameplay? how will roblox know if the actual game itself is creative and good and not just another tycoon with a few changes?
the slop epidemic is being fixed… roblox making good updates for once… we’re so back…
cool to see, but it’s not really a interesting feature for me. Sorry!
Absolutely loving all the changes to recommendations you’ve been making lately, and this is yet another great change. Almost makes up for the way sponsors were ruined some time back lol
But the big issue I and many others can see here is how low quality content’s going to be identified. I can definitely imagine a thumbnail made with tons of care and effort getting wrongfully ID’d as low quality while a thumbnail that was just barfed out of a neural network isn’t marked by the system.
Please make sure this is actually ready for a proper release though. We really don’t want another Today’s Picks happening lol
it affects how you search for games. instead of a bunch of automated slop being put at the front and the actual game far down, you get the actual game at the front and the slop disregarded or pushed down
Roblox actively ensorse AI, so this won’t happen.
Will this gradually include the creator marketplace to reduce the exposure of copyrighted/low quality assets i.e. models, decals, etc.?
And here I thought the graphics settings got updated.
