Yes, it’s copyright free. All you have to do is credit Kevin.
The issue is that almost nobody does this, so if you try it the Roblox moderation bots will automatically say “you’ve used someone’s music, we don’t want the hassle of even getting involved with a copyright lawsuit, therefore we’ll deny any named music that our bots can’t confirm is ok.”
The other thing is Kevin’s rule is you have to credit him. Roblox can’t assume you are going to do this every time you use his song in your place. Again, they aren’t going approve it based on this legal declaration.
Remember this; Roblox is never going to stick their legal necks out if there is even the smallest doubt as to how the material you submit is going to be used.
I do credit them in game, I have an in game music player that shows the music’s icon / album cover, and shows the name and artist of the song. I also put the name and artist of the song in the description of the audio when uploading it.
I would prefer the original, I like the tune of it better.
Is it possible we could get more of Kevin Macleod’s music on Roblox? I tried uploading Easy Lemon and Local Forecast - Elevator previously and they were both denied after being uploaded. I strangely uploaded Moonlight Hall without any problems.
Even if the original composition is no longer copyrighted new recordings of it can be considered copyright. Those new recordings can be matched to the files you upload causing it to be taken down.
Roblox does not work directly with Kevin MacLeod for music. We get it through our partnership with DistroKid.
Please make sure you have the rights to the music you upload to Roblox and consult our Terms of Use (specifically the ‘Music on Roblox.’ section) for more information.
hey, is there any update on the “proof of ownership” tool mentioned in a Apr 2023 support email?
i had a similar issue with fully licensed music and when i attempted to appeal the strike, i got this:
