Subscriptions are there to supplement gamepasses and dev products, not replace them.
I agree - this specific update is an improvement, but my issue is about Subscriptions as a whole. If the previous issues with subscriptions werenât present, I wouldnât be as bothered as I am now. But subscriptions were implemented in a way to benefit Roblox whilst giving all the hurdles to the developer - such as charging real money which significantly decreases the amount of money a developer earns, whilst giving them heavily taxed Robux and announcing that âDevelopers earn 100% of the Robux from their game.â
Not every developer currently makes money on Roblox. If I were to read this post as a new developer, I would look at it and choose Roblox over other platforms, because why choose another platform when I could choose Roblox. After all, for all I know, I get to keep 100% of the earnings of my game via Robux. It also disguises the real cut of what a developer realistically makes from the money their subscriptions have earned.
It is misleading, and what I think you are mistaking me of doing is accusing them of blatantly lying, which I am not. They did not tell any lies, but they worded the truth to sound a lot better than it actually is.
Roblox takes a large cut, and if theyâre going to make announcements saying âYou earn 100% of the Robux your game makesâ they need to clarify that the Robux you earn does not hold the same monetary value as the Robux the customer bought.
thatâs always great to hear! I would also love to see even 5% less of a cut on all transitions like clothing game passes and ugc. 25% is better then 30% and it might seem small but it adds up a lot for small creators too! imagine getting 75% of the robux or even 80%!
Roblox clearly wants you to replace them, otherwise it would not be a thing in many of their posts/docs for this feature. Either way, doesnât excuse the fact that it doesnât count towards the algorithm.
Once again, why is the only payment option for subscriptions in USD when the developer only gets robux in the end? Plugins for example are a direct transfer sans payment processor fees.
What is misleading? They didnât say that you will earn 100% of the Robux your game makes, they said you will earn 100% of the Robux your subscription makes on renewal. Your game passes and developer products earnings will still be charged with a fee.
Thats good update! But still not avaible my country. When will it come to TĂźrkiye? And I have a suggestion, local pricing would be great. In some countries it is difficult to buy with dollars. Also, buying in local currency saves Turkish players from bank commissions.
Itâs great that game developers will now be able to earn a substantial amount of subscription fees as additional income, even if itâs a small amount.
I donât think Roblox will do anything about it, but it would be great if Developers could price according to Countries
These are amazing news! We finally get all robux instead of the 30% Platform Fee, Thanks Roblox!
W update, yâall definitely cooked with this.
This change seems excellent on the surface but is actually quite deceptive, as a subscription costing $10 will only give the developer 700 robux, or 1000 robux for any subsequent months⌠which in dev-ex is a maximum of $3.50. In reality youâre taking 65% at minimum, leaving us with 35%, yet youâre claiming to be giving us the full 100%.
I explained in detail what was misleading in the post you responded to.
Hereâs a simpler scenario â If you wanted to send some apples to someone who is hungry, and I said âI will deliver 100% of the apples,â would it be okay for me to eat half of each apple before giving them to that person? After all, the person receives 100% of the amount of apples.
That is what Roblox is doing with subscriptions.
I read your last post again and yeah I agree with you, it does make new developers overestimate their actual monetary value that they would earn via converting Robux with DevEx, especially with the tone Roblox uses, whilst also benefitting more themselves than the actual developer and also not mentioning that in the post, which is what I think they should have done.
Though I think those who wish to make a living off of Roblox would do some research about DevEx, otherwise I completely agree with you.
To make sure they get as much money as they can from you. By turning it into robux instead of actual money, they can tax you even more. 10$ subscription converted into 700 robux then times the current DevExchange rate (0.0035) 2.45$. A 75% cut for roblox, and a 25% cut for you!
I wouldnât care if they just gave us actual money instead of converting it into robux so that they can impose more taxes on us.
This is a good step in the right direction! Just an FYI to developers this change puts us back to the standard 24.5% cut of every user dollar spent (subscriptions had a lower de facto cut than gamepasses/products on launch due to Roblox adding app store fees the user sees on top of the price the developer sets)
I still would rather have the end user see the same price point no matter what platform they subscribed on, and take the platform fee hit as a developer.
The end user should not be seeing wildly varying prices based on the device they used, on top of the fact that most users are on mobile. I would love to see an option in the future to price things at a flat rate for all platforms.
Why pay devs out in robux?
If youâre not going to provide users a way to pay with robux, then why not pay out devs in USD? Similar to the new plugin system.
Roblox is still taking a big cut on subscriptions (nearly the same as other products?). I donât see the advantage of using subscriptions personally.
If a player is smart theyâll immediately cancel the subscription either way, leading to no increased payout. I assume the percentage of users that (consciously) renew a subscription will be a relatively small part of the already small userbase that will buy subscriptions.
Personally I think the best solution would be to just have it priced in robux. The currency players are familiar with.
This is an awesome update. Thanks, Roblox team.
