I mean, there are already algorithms for detecting naked people, which would immediately blacklist a video for review.
The truth is, they can’t perfectly moderate video. Just like they can’t perfectly moderate games, but if they’re able to manage these moving 3D spaces so that the occasional honker isn’t seen by anyone unless they look for it, they can do the same for moving 2D images.
In my opinion, video is just… not going to happen for us normal developers. It’s purely for event games. Roblox values money over its playerbase, and while that hurts to say, it doesn’t make the engine any less of a powerful tool.
So you know what? We don’t need video. We don’t need new features. I think that the engine could stagnate where it is, and it would still be the best thing we would have for decades.
Roblox have already informed us about us being able to upload our own videos in the future if you look all the way at the top. But they have not told us when that will be happening and it’s already been nearly a year from when they announced this new feature. Videoframes will be a very powerful object because it will save developers a lot time making there own short video clips with imagelabels. I just hope that this feature gets rolled out soon as I know many developers that are looking forward to been able to add videos to their games. – crixtt
Look I’m not going to lie. The video feature in Studio just… doesn’t really work well.
For the longest time I had this issue where if you place a video frame into a player’s GUI, and then delete it their whole client would crash on the spot. Was a huge issue for me because I was trying to make a video command for my admin script where you play a video in the corner of someone’s screen upon use, but after the video ends the frame deletes itself for convenience. Didn’t work. Did not work. Took months for it to be fixed.
I think this feature was so broken upon release Roblox just cut their losses and left it as is minus major bugs that caused crashing clients like the one I just stated. This is probably just an abandoned feature.
What if this is abused like how Decals are?
people may upload innapropriate stuff thatll get through the auto moderation…
When will we be able to make our own?
It’s been a year… when’s the full update gonna come out? At this point the feature is completely useless, theres only like 20 videos, and I have literally not seen a single game use them.
They’re probably going to announce the removal of videos, and talk about some new alternative and how it can save them resources in the long run as they have to put in more effort to get it out of beta @tnavarts
Snarky comment aside, there’s a lot that goes into videos and the moderation of them. So it makes sense that the feature is taking a bit to be released. Just like the UGC Catalog in which a monopoly is still ongoing. Either there’s some other functionality still missing or in progress in the pipeline that’s causing a hindrance or more important issues at hand.
Well, I’m just stating the truth, lol.
I know this may sound a bit sketchy, but being able to upload videos of my own would be amazing for optimization; as of now, my experiences have a ton of different frames and UIGradients and UICorners constantly animated, but imagine if I could put it all into a VideoFrame!!
@RoxyBloxyy The community have been left in the dark for over a year on this update, this post even appears as the first developer article of developer.roblox.com, yet still isn’t fully released (no uploading videos). It seems as if other features only coming into beta now (such as facial animations) will come out fully before videos, which is unutterly disgraceful (I’m not trying to offend the dev team working on this).

It’s been over a year since this post was published, I was really looking forward to this being rolled out en masse for us to upload our own videos, I hope it’s still coming but it seems that a few more “recent” features are going to launch before this one does?
I think Roblox just completely forgot about this when they decided to release display names, age verification, spatial voice and etc… To be frank with you, I forgot that this existed as well.

Are there any updates on this system? It’s been a year since we got something new from what I can tell; it would be great if we could release actual videos across the platform. Especially with the installment of other age group filters.
I’m wondering the same thing too. I’m waiting for them to allow users to upload their own videos, and also waiting for them to improve optimization when adding videos to your experience.
Hey! Are we getting any new information on this feature? It has been nearly 2 years and we haven’t had any update on when we will be able to upload our own videos. We see them used in Events so you haven’t forgotten about them but we would just like to have some more information as of an estimate release date or something.
