It's time to say goodbye to phone numbers

You should be more clear on what you want, such as saying you want any method of 2FA required regardless of method, keys, authentication, email, etc. which is something you should’ve mentioned (and still haven’t), which would’ve been a righteous answer that I would’ve accepted.

You’re welcome. I stated it. I don’t need to be specific. Goodbye. You are actively trying to make this into an argument. Everyone would have understood that saying “just use 2FA” means to use any form of 2FA that Roblox provides. If you really need me to be specific:

Are you popular by any means? I believe people like you have too much paranoia due to expenses, or just in-general, sure the things you say are a massive possibility, but be reasonable here, what kind of possibility is it that anything like that happens, not even around 0.01% of people on the platform know anything about doing that.

At a certain age all your information becomes available to be archived whether you like it or not, such as if you buy a house people can find your name, your phone number, literally any kind of number registered to you, anyone your related to, etc.

Using websites such as “PeopleFinders” you can pay 10 dollars and most likely find everything about your parents, everyone they are related to, and everyone they are related to, going on forever, with phone numbers listed as mobile, landline and how long they’ve been registered, information is always going to be public.

You proved that phone numbers are insecure right there. With 2FA; you need a physical device. With a phone number or email; you need a phone number or email.

I will no longer reply to you. I hope you have an amazing day

I own rare limited collectables, notably Dominus Frigudus. There are plenty of people on the black market seeking to hijack accounts of value. I invest a lot into my security, I have security keys, I rotate my passwords biweekly, adding a phone number would make my efforts for nothing.

I am not trying to make this an argument, I am not talking to you as I’ve been ignoring you since your “goodbye” reply, and you refuse to go “goodbye”.

I am also stating that your phone number is easily passed around whether you like it or not, even if you don’t give it to Roblox, something else is going to have it anyway, now you can goodbye.

I am a verified developer with a game that has almost 90M visits to count. Security matters a lot to me and I also urge my friends to be secure too regardless if they’re a target or not. Account security is a major thing no matter if you are popular or the average joe. We need people prioritizing security over convenience as that is how the majority of accounts get hacked in the first place. You may be fine now, but things can change suddenly.

Games can suddenly explode in popularity and off-sale items are always able to become limited worth a lot. Never take your chances, even if small

Also, wrong reply. My bad!

I don’t think people can enter your account if you have a security key, you rotate passwords for nothing as where would they even find the password you put in if your not regularly using it for other media? Get access to your email? All of what you say is personal and not a universal issue for a regular user, if it were up to you IDs wouldn’t be required for VC, which just shows you got too much on your mind.

If someone suddenly guessed your password, this is the only methods they’d be able to use if they didn’t have access to your key, in a hypothetical where you actually trust the phone.

I shouldn’t have to resort to a second line of defense to protect my account. Even with all those in place, my phone number is still an entry point and linked to my account.

Also, my phone number is a part of my personal life. Any opsec bible’s most important rule is to separate your real and online life. In the hypothetical case that roblox has a phone number leaking problem, now people would have my personal information.

These small things matter and it’s my duty to be dilligent when it comes to my security, and phone numbers are the opposite of secure.

If you can afford a dominus can’t you just like, I don’t know get another number.

A new phone number is still linked to me personally, I hope this helps.

I’ve already had friends get their accounts breached by sim swapping. You don’t need to be super important, you just need to have something of value & enough of your information out there to be a target.

Seriously, what is your problem? Why are you so adamant on Roblox supporting undeniably reducing user security? Are you forgetting what SIM Swapping takes? If you need to be reminded, all it takes is an insider and a few thousand dollars for a bribe. You’re clearly out of your own league here since you think a phone number is a form of security. Me protecting my security is not being ‘schizophrenic’

YES! PLEASE!

Even if we can’t get rid of phone number verification altogether, please don’t lock basic features behind compromising your account security on purpose.

roblox doesnt care about anything here because they are a billion dollar compony

Having to use a horrid authenticator app every time you wish to log in to your school account is already infuriating enough.

Next thing you know it’s there for sending replies and creating posts on the forum and publishing items to the marketplace as well :skull:

Please correct me if I’m wrong but does Roblox even support authentication through a phone number? I have a +44 7xxx one linked to my account and I’ve never had the option to even get verification texts, I just linked it once and that’s it really. I know people have been SIM swapped here though (I think the biggest example was the owner of Royale High), is it a US only thing to get 2FA texts?

Seems a bit dumb locking these features behind a phone number though. These are BASIC platform features and it’s absurd how they’re being locked behind a phone number. I support the usage of using them for one time to access things like publishing videos onto the platform, but not for joining a group.

Seems like this will block literally millions & millions of users from joining groups because:

  1. Don’t want to give out their phone number
  2. Don’t have a phone number

If the goal is to target “likes and follower wholesalers”, I can kind of see the point. :person_shrugging:
If the goal is to target predators, both this and the wholesalers blocking fail for a simple reason. You can buy whole-sale virtual numbers by the thousands and have them all forward to the same number, so this new “security” feature is quite easy to defeat.

To add to this, several users including @GamerOkami have had their accounts stolen because of phone verification.

People have had their accounts stolen via this. It’s a major security concern on the platform.
