i dont rlly have access to any other platforms i dont think
Discovered it was a unique network issue. Roblox works completely fine on other devices connected to the same network. However, when I run it on my laptop it wont work as described in the previous post and all the same problems occur.
The way I went around this is to disconnect my laptop from wireless wifi and reconnect it to the same Wifi using an ethernet cable. After I plugged in the ethernet and ran Roblox all the problems disappeared.
On the other hand, when i disconnected the ethernet and tried using the wireless wifi the problems immediately came back. This issue only occurs on this device as other devices such as PC, phone and other laptops are not affected by it.
seems like a Windows 10 issue
doesnât happen on my macbook but my desktop wont even load images in game
(my desktop normally gets a 10 megabyte per second / 90Mbps download while my macbook normally gets 1-2 megabytes in other things)
that would also make sense since windows is also pretty bad when it comes to handling wifi
so it could be a mix of that and roblox not being able to fully support dsl based connections
not wifi suprisingly as my desktop uses ethernet, they just botched their desktop client on windows somehow
smtn like this for a new jersey server using the default settings seems pretty good for being in scotland so im not sure if packet loss would be a problem
Thanks for all the information and discussion on this topic.
I have gathered broadly two issues here
-
Relatively high ping during join time: roblox player downloads assets from CDN during game join to get the game playable as soon as possible. The actual duration of high ping depends on the overall bandwidth available, what other applications are running/downloading on the device, the number of assets to be downloaded as per the game needs, etc.
-
Windows 10-specific issue: We tested several games on Windows 10 with different hardware configurations that included a combination of
- Intel i5/ i7
- Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti/ 4070 Ti, NVIDIA GeForce GT 730/740/750
- RAM 16GB/ 32 GB
However, we havenât observed any of the issues described here. At this point, our understanding is the problem described in this report are related to individual desktop machine or the network it is connected to.
has this been tested on a dsl based wifi connection? cause from what ive been able to tell, every person whos experienced this has been using that sort of wifi connection
also if there is no limit to how much bandwidth can be used, is there a way to add a limit? cause theres days i cant even open a game without it disconnecting all the devices in my room cause it just uses that much of my bandwidth
Roblox player will not use more bandwidth than the specific device can use. One option I can think of is limiting the bandwidth for the device in your network if other devices are not getting enough bandwidth.
ill try doing that, but i would still suggest trying to run roblox on a wireless dsl based connection (or adsl if you wanna be on the exact same type as i am) if you havent just to be absolutely sure its a bandwidth issue i have. cause im certain it isnt as several people have experienced far worse than i have while all on the same type of wifi im on but on far better routers than what ive got as far as im aware (someone ended up with 608k ping on i think over 200mbps and mine averages like 15mbps)
its weird though cause its specifically the roblox player im experiencing this in, studio and any other app on my pc runs perfectly fine even if its trying to use the same bandwidth that roblox should use
i would also like to mention that my ping only spikes up to above 10k the exact moment i press the play button on any game, and only goes back down to the usual 20-40 the exact moment i close the actual player which i need to use alt+f4 to do so my wifi doesnt just turn off. doesnt do this at all in anything like chrome or discord which are also apps i usually have open, and closing either or both doesnt resolve the high ping which is why i have a good feeling its the roblox player causing the issue since it does this both with app and web the exact frame it opens a game no matter how big it is
hell like 10-15 minutes ago i was trying to play a game and my ping slowly crept up to 63k quite literally the exact second i loaded in and just stayed at that until i closed the player, and i couldnt respawn on server side even though my client registered that i did respawn, meaning all i could do was turn my camera around where i should be standing
its also at its worst during high-traffic hours or days which is when i took the 400k ping screenshot on christmas as bloxfruits had > 2m ccu at that time due to its christmas update so im sure its got at least smtn to do with the roblox player itself
ok nvm i cant limit my bandwidth usage on my pc since i dont have the login to my ispâs app nor do i have my ispâs app since i didnt set up the router
A couple of thoughts for you to dig deeper into whats happening
-
To understand the usage at network level, you could use wireshark I/O charts. More details here: 8.8. The âI/O Graphsâ Window
-
You could use 3rd party tools to limit bandwidth. Something like clumsy, an utility for simulating broken network for Windows Vista / Windows 7 and above or https://www.netlimiter.com/
I hope it helps.
do you know how to get wireshark to not have roblox pick it up as me trying to exploit? cant open it at all while wiresharks open
also the exact second i opened roblox i instantaneously experienced a 754 packet loss which immediately went back down when it force closed
below image shows where i had roblox open in the red box i drew out
I donât see anything wrong in the chart that you posted. It shows a packet I/O spike that we would expect to see for a very short duration when it tries to connect to a game server.
I donât think I can offer any more guidance on this. I will go ahead and close this issue.
Thanks!
alr
really not too sure whats up either cause i couldnt even try connecting to a game server there due to the exploit detection picking up wireshark as exploits and closing the player so idk if that packet spike is intended at all
ok no yea it is a roblox issue
just had my wifi shut off there and didnt turn back on for 5 entire minutes
wanna know when it turned back on? literally the EXACT moment i alt+f4âd roblox
