Need feedback to improve platformer game's like ratio

I created a platformer game called Super Blox Bros! A couple months back I made a similar post, but since then my game has become much more popular and I’ve made several significant changes to the game (and much of the feedback provided I already addressed).

Lately, one of the biggest issues I’ve faced is a low like-dislike ratio, which I’d like feedback on improving. I would appreciate any constructive criticism for my game and its mechanics, and I would appreciate if you could help point out any factors that could encourage dislikes.

Thanks

I assume it was a combination of things. I can make guesses, but only that, guesses.

  • the player died in the game or found it too difficult. I know tower of hell and other obby games have this issue of players disliking a game because of difficulty.
  • the player ran into a bug and would rather dislike the game and move on than report the issue. Most don’t report the issues they see, I think.
  • the game didn’t meet the player’s expectations. Maybe the player was thinking they’d get a better experience than they were offered, were disappointed, and then left a dislike.

For all of these, I think there will always be people who dislike your game. The game design behind lives, working on fixing bugs, and asking players about their expectations in QA tests might help. I’ve also seen games that remind players to like the game, which people often forget about. Maybe people are more likely to remember to dislike a bad experience they had compared to liking a good experience they had. And, that could skew numbers.

That’s a very common reason for why many obby games are disliked. Perhaps leaving more difficult stages towards the end of the game for more committed players. Many players (who don’t want to play the game) will leave in the early stages. If difficult stages are in the beginning, though, it’ll lead to these noob players disliking the game out of rage.

At the same time though, there needs to be a balance between difficulty and not having the beginning of the game to be too boring.

The ratings of obby games are inconclusive because of many people disliking it out of rage.
