Needing help deciding what development style to use in truck game

Gonna also go with cartoonish, like the rest of people in this thread. I’ve tried doing photorealism in Roblox, and it is possible, but it also comes with a whole slew of problems. Roblox isn’t designed to be realistic, so a stylised cartoonish feel should work better both for aesthetics and performance.

Oh it’s all fine, probably going to be 5 - 10 minutes between cities and each city most likely will have it’s own different region (desert, snow, temperate, mountainous) to hopefully keep the players fascinated and not only enjoying the drive but the view too, even though you should focus on driving

That sounds like fun! Actually, now that I think about it, the only reason I still continue to play GTA V. Probably also why I crash into everything in that game, but who cares? The scenery is the best part! I definitely like the concept!

Here’s a very early look at one of the intersections in the game, also this is my first actual game, for the past few years I’ve been making airports and assets in Ro-Aviation.

In my opinion I believe that the truck should be more realistic if you want your game to be on the page. It is kind of blocky and players who see that wouldn’t really like it. So, that is my opinion.

My plan is to have three truck variants at launch, Tier 1 being cheapest and least detailed, each tier would then go on to being more detailed. Tier 3 which I have not made yet is going to be the one I’m going to put the most detail into, thanks for the info though!

CSG would cause a lot of lag either way, if your game is physics based… CSG isn’t very fun to play with… my map used to have 500 unions, and took >10 seconds to load on my i5 7600… None of it was physics based either.

This is actually a really cool and informative reply. I’ll be saving it as it could be useful to remember later down the line if I ever decide to develop a full game.

As someone who likes playing trucking games i actually like the cartoonish trucks. Yes it seems a little goofy but it helps reduce lag and it doesn’t kill low end computers i don’t see a problem with it.

Having a unique and consistent style will help your game a lot.

That’s what I’m gunning for, having a unique game but making it all by myself, learning to script and make GUIs isn’t gonna be a quick process seeing I’m just an alright CSG Developer.

Personally I see ROBLOX moving towards the cartoonish theme and it does appeal and attract many players on the platform. It also is usually lowpoly, and that’s wonderful for those with lower-end devices. With the cartoony-feel, you’ll be able to market the game as your own and make changes as such without people getting upset that it’s “unlike ATS”, if that’s what you’re going for.

Whatever option you choose, I’ll be playing! I love the concept and can’t wait to play it.
