I find it sad that ones like me that are trying to use this forum for its actual use like other older members and some of the new people have to come in and ruin it for everyone.

Issuing more and more blanket restrictions until there are less people doing bad things restricts people who are not trolls from using the forum as intended. It’s pretty annoying.
I think the forum settled on a good configuration for now, and has for a while. If anything it’s only going to get a little bit more open for New Members from here on out. DevRel/LTC are very particular about the changes we make because we want to make sure we’re not detracting from the forum any further from the perspective of power users / new members who are serious developers. I’m sure that as a serious new member, you do not want to see the quality of the forum decrease either because of bad posting behavior by less mature/serious new members.
There’s the problem - there’s a large range of "mature/serious"ness in the New Members, which also makes it hard to judge how much freedom to give. Yes, I know this problem is already mostly solved with the regular Members role/group/whatever. In that case, I feel like it’s going to take a long while for me to get the chance to get ‘promoted’. This is the case for many New Members.
In what case? You aren’t promoted based on the other new members behaviour, only your own commitment and contribution to the forum.
There’s no reason that you can’t get promoted any faster than that of someone who entered through the application process
That’s exactly what I addressed, so I don’t want to turn this circular.
If you make mature posts and use the post approval procedure properly, it does not have to take a long time. We just need to be sure you know how to properly contribute to the forum – we can’t assume you know how if we don’t have examples of your behavior on the forum.
I’m not saying it’s hard - only that it’s inconvenient, which was my point all along. Take it any way you like.
