I honestly don’t know which is worse: Voice chat or this thing
THIS. PLEASE LISTEN TO USE ROBLOX. MAKE THIS OPTIONAL. DON’T REPLACE THE OLD MATERIALS!!!
Why don’t they do something like this:
Property in workspace: TerrainTexturesOnParts
: true or false.
This could toggle the new textures that look like terrain, or leave the old ones which people use for building. All in all, this is the worst update I think I’ve ever seen.
imo this is far worse. I think any interest I ever had in building is kinda ruined for me.
Its also funny how they have no idea what the community wants when they show us an update
Exactly. They could at least revert to old textures on devices with low graphics settings OR just give us an option. I would LOVE an option for this. Some games need realistic textures, others need the old ones. I really hope they listen to this.
Im concerned about how current places will turn out.
You know JTOH? That obby game with the plastic and the studs? Yeah that’s going to look real ugly if this update comes
Yup. Old games that use building techniques like grass for leaves and sand for curtains and all that are going to be ruined.
I predict all hell will break loose in Roblox, Discord Servers, roblox youtube videos and their comment sections and what not
Why are the materials from the screenshots in the post sooooo different from the result? Awful
This provably will happen to a lot of games. Let’s truly hope they listen and respond to the community here, pushing these changes is a crippling blow to the Roblox ecosystem. For a game which touts its mobile support and it’s flexibility, every aspect if this screams terrible. The textures look really cool on high quality lighting environments, but they look drastically different to mobile, leaving developers who work with these textures to divide the look of their games along that mobile-PC boundary. To get some perspective, almost 75% of Roblox is mobile, meaning this one update, should they decide to go through with it and force the textures, could leave developers with 2 choices:
- Use the textures with good lighting and abandon mobile in favor of graphics, usually leading to poor mobile performance
- Don’t use the textures and support mobile, leaving PC players looking at either a mushy mobile-supported map or an unloved, awkward mashup of textures which were unintended because these textures do not scale properly across graphic levels
If they decide NOT to force the changes but not fix the texture differences, that’ll leave a third, and probably the most popular choice: don’t use the textures at all
Well we do have a chance of them listening, pretty sure they have actually opened their ears before to us
edited the textures really quickly and removed the colour baking by setting the saturation of the “problem textures” (brick, cobblestone, granite, grass, sand, woodplanks) to 0.
this is how it should look by the time this whole thing is done and over with. the fact that they didn’t do this in the first place is baffling to me and i’m glad that they realize this is a problem. i’ve made minecraft resource packs in the past and i have to deal with forced colours enough there as is
the fact that they still have to ask if making them non-optional was acceptable is hilarious though, especially considering everyone and their mom was complaining about it on the last thread. read the room roblox
Roblox with this update:
Hey so we are reworking every material in roblox and we plan on forcing it down every games’ throat. Must we make it optional or something? we never thought about preserving older games lol
not even older games, though
imagine how stupid a game like welcome to bloxburg would look with super-realistic PBR textures lmao. i’m gonna reiterate on what i said in my first post on this thread, not every game on roblox is realistic and how they fail to realize this when games with a billion visits aren’t realistic is beyond me.
by older games i mean literally anything made today or before that
cant wait to see Crossroads all messed up and ugly
lol this is so true. Roblox’s mind rn:
Hmmm… new update with new textures.
People probably won’t like it, also lets make them look like crap on low end devices.
Games that rely on certain textures will totally love these new, over-simplified muddy textures!
Why does everyone ask for an option to turn this off/on? It doesn’t make sense!
Every update we make MUST be liked by everyone and they are all really good, right?
New low quality textures will look good IN EVERY situation and we totally looked at every game to determine this. SO NO, I will not push out a toggle feature
This message sums up how isolated the staff are from developers and players lol
On my way to see youtubers rant and go crazy over this
This is just unnecessarily rude. Yes, Roblox do evaluate and plan their updates, but they don’t plan them for the sake of ruining people’s experience - a far more logical conclusion would be that certain features don’t interact or run well because of internal miscommunication between the different departments within Roblox.
