The UI tab needs to have the Device Emulator tool in it by default. Also, the bar holding the tab buttons should be adjustable in size or its height reduced. After using it a bit I do like the overall design and feel of it, only thing that actually annoyed me was spending 5 minutes figuring out how to get the emulation tool.
The top half of the nav bar is way too thick. The margin needs to be smaller. The focus should be placed on the content of the nav bar, not the tabs at the top.
There is too much spacing between the plugins, this places too much emphasis on UI instead of UX. Making the margins between the plugins smaller will help. Wrapping and truncating text will also help a lot.
The Run, Test and Test here button in a dropdown is a hassle to get to. I would much perfer having small icon buttons all laid out instead of having so much whitespace.
Overall, I quite like the new UI, but I feel that the UI has compromised the UX part of the program. Implementing these changes would be a great step to developers having a smoother developing experience.
I’m sure the team at Roblox has put a lot of time and effort into creating this new UI, and I appreciate that improving the platform is never easy, especially when you’re trying to make it more welcoming for new users.
But honestly, this new UI has been a huge step backwards for many of us who’ve been using Roblox Studio for a long time. It’s meant to be a “simplified, more intuitive” layout for new creators, at least that’s what Roblox staff have said; but in reality, it feels a lot more complicated, harder to navigate, and just not nearly as efficient as what we had before.
I get that Roblox wants to bring in new developers, and that’s a good thing. But this update feels like it was designed with only new users in mind, with little consideration for the people who’ve been building on the platform for years. A lot of us have built up our workflows around the Legacy UI, and this change has made basic tasks more frustrating and time-consuming.
At the very least, we should be given the option to keep using the Legacy UI. Forcing this new layout on everyone, without a choice, just doesn’t sit right, especially when so many of us are saying it’s not working for us.
Seems like Roblox is intending to prioritise new talent, over it’s long terms users of Studio, doesn’t it?
It’s not gonna be optional, so be prepared to have all your muscle memory for developing changed.
how do i close THIS STUPID CONTROLLER EMULATOR???
i’m sorry, but it reappears on every place join (the gif doesn’t show it), and closing it DOESN’T HELP.
i’ve tried several methods to close it, none are working it makes me insane
Yes! Forgot to update that in the chaos. Thank you for pointing this out.
You can left align your tabs via the “Manage Tabs” UI (right click in the upper ribbon area)
You can add the undo/redo button back via customization
I can’t help you with the “too smooth” part
Posting regarding this feature again as it’s a major downside to this new UI for me.
I currently minimize the toolbar when I’m not using it, using the arrow on the far right of the UI. This new Studio UI does not have this feature (to the best of my knowledge since last posting this feature request) and it prevents me from wanting to switch to it. When it isn’t minimize, the top bar is way to thick for my monitor and my camera port becomes really small for me.
I would love a minimize feature to be implemented.
Simply double click any tab or right click in the empty tab area and select “Undock Ribbon” (we’re going to change the text of that).
Is that what you mean?
He does not mean that. I believe he is talking about the top toolbar, which used to be collapsable in previous studio UI, now it is not, makes working on UI so much harder for laptop users, including me, it has been a major hindrance:
On top of this, I can’t find asset manager unless I right click on a random window and enable it through options, which is super unintuitive
Where even are the settings to put R6, etc
But that’s what double clicking a tab or “undocking” the ribbon does?
Asset Manager is available via the Window
menu or you can add it to your tabs. Or you can bind a keyboard shortcut to it.
Are you talking about the Generate Rig dialog? If so, that’s Avatar tab > Character
If he meant game settings (where avatar settings can be changed), then @Baconhairboi2022year , it is in the top left “file → game settings → avatar”
Yep! You can also add Game Settings to a tab if you desire
Maintaining two UI’s in the future and adding new features to both will not be feasible… period. They are working to compact it, but the size alone should not cause issues with your workflow. You can add custom tabs now as well, so finding tools should not be an issue. Eventually you’ll need to use it, not sure why you don’t get used to it now? That seems to be the most logical to me.
I reckon they just give us the ability to customize our own Studio themes and make our own icons like other services with a theme editor. Saves them time updating UI to look better and gives the community a chance to publicize and envision their own designs for studio
please make the studio layout change optional
