Opinions on my Home?

Recently got back into building, and am currently experimenting with several different Builds.
Just looking for opinions on my first home.

The style of the homes is influenced by Pokémon DS Games and this is my own adaption.

Please note that the home is intentionally basic and bland as it is only present for visual purposes only.

Looks good(I like the colours), here are some tips:

  • The chimney looks a little weird and I personally think I should be 1 square brick without the others around it.
    chimney

  • Depending on what them your going for (realistic, low poly) you could add more materials to it but if it’s meant to be low poly(which it seems to be) you could add a few things like bricks in the wall ect. Reference Pictures:

(just an image I got from google)

  • You could add some extra things like a porch or lights, drive way, letterbox , garage, tree, hedge/bush,pathway ect.

  • All the colours seem to blend well together except the grass. It’s not a big deal but one thing you could do is make the grass lighter.

  • I’m not really a big fan of these edges on this building. It does look good on some things but to me it doesn’t look good on this building:
    edges

  • Maybe add a small balcony here:

  • If it’s meant to be cartoony maybe change the smoke to a custom cartoony smoke particle:

  • Change the lighting up to make it look more cartoony, have a look at these lighting settings which create a nice feel:

  • Maybe add a door frame around the door and maybe change the door handle to one that looks like this:
    Handle
    (just and idea)

  • Maybe add a window sill on the windows.

  • Maybe make the bottom of the door concrete or something not grass.

Hope at least some of this helps. It’s a great start!:+1:

I am lacking in sufficient perspectives, but from what I can tell from here, is a decent build.

Analysis

The house is giving me a lowpoly feel or something. The grass and the house don’t have complimentary colors, one is way saturated over the other.

The door placement doesn’t feel right, can you somehow move the door so it’s centralized between the left-most part of the window and the corner of the wall? And maybe lowering the smaller window(attic window) slightly?

That gap is making me slightly crazy. There’s no detail there but wall. What gap? It’s the gap between the upper window and the bottom half of the house! Not to mention that the walls are lacking details and seem flat.

Windows are plain. You might as well adding some extra parts to the window frame to make it look normal… unless you’re aiming for the simple window panes.

The door is seemingly fine, but it lacks something between the ground and the door. Observe doors and look closely at the very bottom of the door. Do you see that sticking part of it? Add it to the door.

In the other hand, I find the build very decent and somewhat ‘accurate’ to proportions. You don’t have to follow every word in the suggestions, find something that fits well with your capabilities.

The current colors are rather uninteresting and the general composition is uninteresting — there’s some elements of a house that are missing you could possibly add.

First, I’d change some of the colors around to have it pop more and look more cartoony. As well as that, possibly improve the proportions for the 1st and 2nd floor- the window distances are making it seem off greatly.

Old example of mine

It’s still possible to have the walls flat and look interesting; for the style you’re going for I’d probably stay away from doing a siding. But, if you do end up adding siding, here’s an example of mine that has them that follows that flat shade style.

Example with siding

Or, you could add dispersed bricks to give the illusion that its a brick house- A pretty common technique with “low poly” buildings.

Example of dispersed bricks

(With all those examples, they were from inspiration of flat shaded buildings I googled; I’d honestly look up references for your builds to learn what works w/ proportion and structure/ functionality.)

Along with those 3 examples, notice how the windows have basic frame. I’d just split up the area in each window for your building to add some more to it. Also, the windows in those examples look well placed and part of the structure rather than the current “thrown on” windows in your build, some simple spacing that makes sense should work just fine.

Add a frame and basic knob to the door as well. With the basic style I’d probably make the door frame similar to the window frame to keep continuity.

Best of luck on improving your building!

Its kinda weird that it only has 2 windows. If you want to keep it that way, just use diffrent deigns. For the top one, a circle maybe?

Thanking you all for this inspiration and honest opinions! I tried a style similar to what @oneandonlyralph suggested -
Opinions on this? Personally, I’m not too fond but it’s a start.

You should add a chimney. A medium sized. You should maybe add one small window next to the door.

Adding onto this, some adjustments have been made.

Unless I’m simply unaware of the ambiance in which this style is being attempted, maybe brighten up the colors? Only recommending that so it’ll stand out more than this very grey-ish color palette currently.

A definite improvement. Depending on the theme of the game like @oneandonlyralph said you could alter the colours but these colours do work well together. The only other thing I could suggest is maybe doing something like this to the chimney:

Looks great and Is a good improvement :+1:.

Great work! You’re getting somewhere and now it seems to be the chimney detail only, as previously mentioned above.

To detail it, an extra part or two with a couple of parts that can tell that chimney is made out of bricks.

Yeah, I see your point, whilst I like this, I think you should add more detail like how the others say, maybe use mesh parts for the chimney!

Apart from that, great build!
