I want to have something on the side that relates to programming, scripting. I wish to work for a group/community and create scripts, and hopefully programs (if affordable).
Goal
I am a Data Technician student with specialization in programming, but I want something on the side, which in ROBLOX is Lua scripting.
Issue
I am not sure what kinds of projects would be beneficial to have as a portfolio in terms of Lua scripting.
Concern
What the differences are between scripting and programming, I do know. They are essentially the same, but scripting are for smaller tasks and programming are for a larger and more complex environments in order to build, for an example, websites or software.
Although, I don’t know what kinds of things group/community managers need from a Lua scripter. This why I am asking what projects could assist me.

Honestly as someone that has looked at a lot of google coding interviews and other big companys, and spoke to people who hire programmers, the number 1 most important thing for you is to show them you have worked on something. Like, what you have created. Just a normal game doesn’t even matter what the game is about (except nothing crazy, of cousre like something offensive etc.) I always heard that they just want to see what YOU are working on to improve your skills. This shows that even after hours of work you are still training and improving your skills that they aren’t paying for. It may seem silly but I will always hire a guy who has been solo working on projects for 4 years, then a guy with 10 years of experience but has zero side projects to show his true potential. I hope that leads you down the right path as it helped me a lot in my career. No job interviewer is look for one thing specific and boom you are hired. Never has that been a thing and the whole concept of “They only look for this” was a big thing on youtube I really disliked. Even in cyber security where I work I have zero certs (ZERO!) and I was hired on within a week full time, whole 9 yards. Because I showed them what I was passionate about OUTSIDE of work.

I will have myself work on whatever I want to and just create, create, and create. Hopefully I will be able to land a scripting job for someone (paid, might I say) with your advice. For anyone reading this, I am free for any ideas or suggestions on what to create.
For now at least as I am writing this, I will finish up with my work right now and create something as soon as possible.
