Due to the appeal of this game for its open ended creativity that allows for trolls to ruin it, it is currently private. I will eventually work on an update that’ll allow others to create their own custom r/place with an access ID and leave moderation up to them.
The great part about this is that it doubles as an pixel art canvas that you can do alone or with friends!
Expect the update to come out with in a few days or weeks.
r/place
A social experiment done in 2017 by Reddit to represent the internet at that time. Now that Roblox has grown recently, we have 1% or 10k pixels to ourselves! This game has the exact same palette as r/place and is simple to play.
Technical Stuff
Making a project like this requires a different approach to datastore syncing. Some cases 1 server will overwrite the others, causing all progress to be lose. I avoided this by tracking the differences between syncs and applying only those instead!
I would be insanely careful if I were with a game like this.
Giving public use over uncensored content is highly risky when making a game, if you’re thinking of expanding this game I’d suggest adding some content warnings and report features before trying to branch out.
Great to hear somebody is bringing r/place back through ROBLOX! As others have mentioned, tight moderation in games like these is a necessity. Trolls could make a negative impact on player’s experiences, which can indirectly affect the player’s feedback on your game.
I don’t think getting a few mods will be enough. I recommend implementing some sort of vote kick feature/report feature and/or a “block” feature which will remove the pixels of the player who is blocked. The second feature might cause trouble given the nature of the experiment.
@Ehonix, for those symbols in red, you can create a script that detects them. Everytime a block is painted you can check the surrounding for similar colors that are constructing those types of symbols.
Dang, I wish children making red not so funny icons would let this be. This is a great concept just needs a lot of active mods to control it. The real R/place did not have moderation at all and would let people express things (I think?), I think it needs some time to set up real mods for that on a platform like Roblox.
