Roblox Community Rules Update

BloxBiz = Give ad to dev that dev can’t control
Dev = Display ad to players

Dev must have control over the ad

so ads that developers pay for aren’t allowed in roblox games anymore

Developers don’t pay for BloxBiz ads.

Really approve these changes. Predatory ad systems have no place in Roblox. Also glad devs can still implement their own systems, couldn’t get much better than this.

@Kairomatic
This seems like a step in the wrong direction, while I do believe privacy for players is important there are cases in when serving third party content is necessary such as playing user generated audio on a ‘boombox’. Oh, wait a second… is this something about that lawsuit ye have been having with the music publishers.

Also, does this mean that user generated decals can no longer be shown since there is a chance they could be advertisements?

well can ads only be allowed if devs have control over the ad
and some that don’t let devs have control might disappear

i hope this is probably what you’re saying

I don’t see how Roblox’s legal team changing their legal documents affects progress on the engine? Please clarify.

Every single advertising network doesn’t give control so every single one will be gone.

There limiting the ‘imagination’ part of Roblox again… ‘Want to add third-party ads, tough luck since we won’t let you’ in all serious BEFORE Roblox did this, they should’ve revived AdService using community ads.

Changing their legal documents is one of their most productive things to do…?

Oh ok! Guess that means we should allow any kind of content in the games. Can’t limit the “imagination”!

This is simply another change that protects both developers and players.

They’re pushing the platform’s security FORWARD by making these changes. Don’t forget the great clarifications on PolicyService, which finally makes it safe to use and makes the experience better for everyone involved!

But they do, with extensive community rules, tbh the should just change their slogan by now.

I’m saying they should put ALL their resources into fixing this issue rather than changing their policy on third party content.

Explain how forbidding the collection of personal information is “backwards”.

Please remember to keep discussions exclusively to the change relating to in-game advertising.

I think bloxbiz is just part of the issue, but that’s more of a personal opinion than a fact.

Does bloxbiz even track any user data? Afaik they have this stance on GDPR/data collection:

Yes! We’ve built with data privacy and kid safety in mind. We do not collect any personal information (including usernames) about players.

That’s why I’m confused at why it sincerely feels like this new update is targeting bloxbiz directly.

Roblox’s way of removing targeted advertising is to remove ALL third-party advertising, there should be something in there that says ‘if you can prove that it is not targeted advertising (such as not needing UserIds) you are allowed to use it’.

It makes sense though. When you place a Bloxbiz ad into your game, the developer does not choose or know what will show up on the ad. Therefore, Roblox is simply trying to remove anything that a developer wouldn’t have control over in their own game. Since the ads aren’t chosen by the developers, I see why these rules exist now. Roblox simply wants their developers to have full control over what goes on in their game, which makes sense for an optimal user experience.

However, this means we can also not show user made decals in our game since it could be an ad.
