Studio Fails To Render - Forced To Restart

Description
On occasion after initially opening studio or after play testing, studio will fail to display viewport tabs (workspace and scripts) within the current studio instance. Instead, another instance of studio is opened that contains each tab. Sometimes the second instance can be interacted with, other times it does not open. I have found no workarounds for this issue, therefore forcing me to restart studio entirely after every occurrence. Log files are included in a private message.

None of the top tabs will render when clicked

When hovering over studio’s taskbar icon, it now displays two instances
2

Although the second instance will not render on top of any other window, it can be seen by minimizing all other windows

Reproduction
Occasionally; cannot reliably reproduce
Issue only seems to occur when reloading viewports

I’ve been having this issue nonstop. It’s insane. I thought all those posts a while back about Roblox neglecting studio were overreacting immensely, but considering the docking system doesn’t work properly, windows flash and stutter when I open them, and I’m having this issue, I think I agree.

To my knowledge, the previous docking reports refer to widgets not saving their positions, which is another issue in itself. I’ve been having this issue for a while now, but it seems to be more prevalent. Honestly thought it was resolved for a bit, but it came back with a vengeance.

Oh, I’ve been having three docking issues. That, a crash associated with them “not working,” and them not dragging correctly

Personally, i have been mainly experiencing this issue whenever i had more than a single studio open. Not really sure when the docking issues will be finally fixed. Seems like for a while its all okay until they yet again break for whatever reason.

I had a second place opened too, but I closed it before I took that image. I’m glad you mentioned that, as it may be part of the cause!

yep, same case with me. It happened once with only one studio instance, but every other time it’s been when I open a second one.

This bug is so annoying, especially with two monitors

happens to me a lot. what you can do is reinstall studio by deleting all files and then.

I’ve been experiencing the exact same issue for over half a year at this point! It’s almost always reproducible by opening a second place. It makes working with multiple places in the same experience a nightmare as the only way to prevent it from happening is to start opening the other place and quickly close the original while it is loading. Any time I need to copy assets between places I’m forced to paste them into the undocked viewport (which I can’t see outside of the alt-tab menu) then restart both places and find where my assets got placed. I’m pretty sure there are other reports about this same issue but I’ve seen them described as a few different things so maybe this can help people identify that they are in-fact the same.

Looks like they are having trouble reproducing the issue, so hopefully the insight on having two places open at once will help them.

I’ve been experiencing this bug for months now, it seems to happen everytime I open more than one Studio window, but rarely it will occur on a single Studio instance.

System Info:
i7 7700K
GTX 1070
Windows 10 Home

I hope this can be resolved soon!

How I usually fix this issue is by playtesting, waiting for the game to say joining, then stopping and it usually comes back.

Hi all, just an update on docking corruption. We have drastically reduced the occurrences of this over the past few months, but we know there are still people affected by this daily. We have gathered a lot of data since the most recent changes and have a complete picture as to how this occurs and who it affects. At the current time we’re working to drive our instance count of this to 0 via a series of changes we’ll roll out in the coming weeks. There’s been a number of open threads on this from users experiencing this problem, and we’re consolidating them down to one to focus our messaging here. Please watch this thread for updates!
