Linux support for only Roblox Studio would be nice, though. I can’t rely on the developers for Vinegar because they are so incompetent that I had to downgrade to an older version of Studio just for it to launch on my Arch Linux machine. Roblox Studio support is really the only thing holding me back from fully migrating from Windows.
Yeah, every time I’ve tried 11 I’ve had severe performance issues. Not even in the “new software” way, in a “even benchmarkers of the newest hardware have noticed up to 25% less FPS on Windows 11” way. Like in “running a core 2 duo on a HDD without spectre patches disabled on windows 10 is more bearable” way. Its a straight up joke.
EDIT: 12h after this post my explorer crashed (taskbar and all) on my laptop after i tried to navigate to the home tab in a file window. Like the new laptop i got that came with windows 11 thats supposed to be the cutting edge technology that runs it well. if that can’t run it without issues then windows 11 is just bad
EDIT 2: apparently on 22h2 if you switch between home and documents fast enough (within 20 seconds) it fully crashes explorer. neat.
Attempt to use the file manager to manage files explorer.exe crashes
What an incredible operating system!
What’s going through the heads of the people who thought this was a good idea when there are so many alternative ways you can build a compatible program without any extra work? They don’t seem to have a problem with supporting Android 6, along with the iPhone 5s and iOS 12, while they have issues with supporting Windows 7-8.1?
Luckily, VxKex might be a lifesaver in this regard. Once this obviously artificial block takes place, it should be extremely trivial to run it under that in order to continue developing on this platform.
How is this ensuring creators have the best experience when using Studio? In recent versions, all I’ve experienced are countless bugs that are being implemented and never patched as a result of moving everything over from Qt to Lua.
Also, when I say that this is an artificial change, I’d like to bring attention to how the person who’s communicating this change is hiding behind the Roblox sock-puppet account and can’t even give us a proper reason for doing this.
Compared to when they ended support for Windows XP and Vista, where they had a real human being communicating to us about this change, and had put actual reasoning behind it (asides from the muh security updates talking point that’s spouted about with every single OS and program that “goes out of date”):
None of that is said in this announcement, unfortunately confirming that this was most likely done just because.
Will we ever get any form of true response from staff or engineers in regards to this topic? This seems too big of a move for radio silence.
Once again, as I mentioned before, I’ll be “upgrading” once I can replicate my exact setup over there without suffering performance consequences. Maybe on Windows Server 2019, but I don’t think Roblox supports that because of artificial blocks, but I’m probably incorrect.
upgraded to 23h2 on that laptop and same thing
this is why i wont upgrade my desktop to 11 next thing going on this desktop is Linux actually this thing is what? a 2017 desktop? may just keep it on 10 specifically to use windows specific programs
How is my epic 5 pound gaming laptop (its not for gaming) supposed to open studio now??? (this is a joke)
If support for 8.1 and 7 are starting to be cut then support for older mobile devices that hold back the platform also need to be cut, i have seen many many replies about it on this post and it can’t be ignored forever. Devs want more from this platform, and lil timmy on his first gen IPhone shouldn’t hold us back.
Also a moment of respect for Windows 7, rest in peace the best os ever created it’s a shame we will never get an os as clean as 7 ever again. Gone are the days when you owned your pc, bow down to Microsoft or swap to Linux.
yeah, those phones that barely support running a browser shouldnt be allowed to run roblox. those are what is holding back the platform, not windows 7 support
I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! There really are very low-end cell phones with 128 megabytes of RAM. Only in 2010, and this RAM capacity was classified as high-end in 1990, and since the GB exceeded it, these 128 MB of RAM of the Samsung A3 light were already low-end
Can we also cut support for all the 8-year-old phones that can’t run most modern roblox games? Pretty please? So we can make games designed for people who can actually play them?
And yet they are all down for cutting ties with Windows 7…
Look, I’m fine with using Windows 11, but only when I have a gaming computer designed to tank and still perform well. I don’t have that right now, quite the opposite actually. Linux is popular because it doesn’t keep getting major upgrades that cause conflicts with older code.
If Roblox was smart, they’d be supporting Linux for the sake of those who cannot simply upgrade to beefier operating systems, as it would also let them keep most of the revenue they’d otherwise lose AND would only add one new OS to support rather than another line of OS versions.
There’s no reason they shouldn’t support Linux. There’s no excuse. It would actually make it EASIER to develop, since now they can get rid of older OS versions faster and leave it to Linux to help those with lower-end hardware continue playing and creating on Roblox. The growing use of Linux makes the revenue saved stack up and increase overtime, and for a money-driven company to not recognize that is quite depressing.
Linux is still used by less than 5% of regular PC users worldwide. It would be a massive loss to roblox to try and market to a platform that MAYBE 4.5% of their userbase actually runs.
it’s so crazy coming from a 2013 user that grew up on windows 7 on roblox.
So sad to see it go but windows 10/11 is the most commonly used OS nowadays.
It’s sad to see it go but it’s time.
It feels like I was in 2017 studio a year ago…
