this is an important question! games which disable chat simply can’t disable this! cheating is a lot easier now.
I feel like this should be in the drop down menu (the one with “Report”, “Emotes”, “Leaderboard”, etc.), as the top bar feels very cluttered and would be extremely annoying - especially for mobile players.
Mobile users or Desktop App users have to leave the game to access the friends chat, this is being created to prevent those users having to leave the game to text their Roblox friends.
You can still chat trough the website
PC users can yes but for mobile and later (when console chatting finally gets released) console users its kind of hard.
Somebody on Discord just brought this quote from the Sunsetting User-to-User Inbox Messaging post to my attention.
Notice the last line that I bolded. Now I’m a bit confused on Roblox’s intentions with chat systems as a whole on the platform. Announcing a new chat system while also removing user-to-user messaging in the same quarter seems counter-intuitive to the point that Roblox made in the quote above, especially with the issues addressed in my original comment.
Great.
Well, at the time I was writing that message, I thought I heard something about “unfiltered” DM’s. Which, later Roblox did release. So, I was naturally curious to see if Roblox would filter party DM’s or not. Which, in hindsight, yes they’re probably going todo.
It depends if the party dms are separate from the “unfiltered” dms thing they were experimenting with
this can be bypassed using voice chat anyway
I had this feature, and then I updated twice today and now its gone. Why though?? I now have a new feature that is you can report individual messages in an experience by tapping on a three dots icon in the top right hand side of the chat UI. Is this a replacement test build? I’d rather have the other feature than this one lol.
I think I’ve seen it in Work At a Pizza Place? IIRC it had separate buttons to toggle chat visibility and actually start a message. Don’t know if it still does.
Wow. I think they’ve considered community feedback here and moved it to its own button in the dropdown list:
This list is getting so long now but so happy there’s not going to be two chat icons right next to each other. Thanks to the chat team for listening here
We’ve started rolling this out to all eligible users now – most should have it by either tomorrow or next week.
i got it today afternoon, and its very cool! good update for mobile players. the ‘roblox chat’ name might still be confusing for some ppl
Is there any way in the future we will be able to pin some of these things from the hamburger menu? I think there was something like this when the new topbar was in beta.
In Roblox chat did not working on gamepad
The length of the list is rather unfortunate, but glad to see that it’s been isolated from the experience chat. No doubt less confusing this way.
Hi Creators,
We’re excited to announce that we’re rolling out Roblox Chat (platform chat) in experiences after the test we announced last month. We appreciate all of your feedback so far as we make way for both Roblox Chat and Experience chat to be available in experiences.
As part of this launch, we are introducing a new Roblox Chat icon across mobile, web, and desktop. This updated design will serve as the entry point for all of your chats with friends, and will soon include Party. We also heard your feedback and are returning to a modernized version of the Experience chat icon With these changes, you’ll have the best of both worlds: easy access to chat with your friends and a dedicated space for chatting within experiences.
Summary of Changes
- We are rolling out Roblox Chat in experiences for all audiences
- We want to ensure the icons for both chats are easier to understand. We’ve updated the icons based on your feedback to the following:
- New Roblox Chat icon , which symbolizes friends hanging out together and communicating on Roblox
- Returning to a modernized version of the Experience chat icon
- We are still exploring the right placement for Roblox Chat. As part of this rollout, it will be accessible from the hamburger menu in experiences.
- Notifications for new chats are enabled and can be easily snoozed
Stay tuned for more exciting updates about Party in the coming weeks!
I hope this can be disabled. I have no desire to support this and it’s confusing UI/UX in experiences right now due to moderation concerns and ROBLOX’s lack of developer-oriented bugfixes to TextChatService.
Is there a CoreGui API call we can make to disable PlatformChat explicitly while we wait for ROBLOX to fix Text Channels?
Thanks for listening to the feedback, it’s better in the hamburger menu with the new icon
When the “beta” UI will be removed?
