Platform Text Chat is coming to Experiences

It depends if the party dms are separate from the “unfiltered” dms thing they were experimenting with

this can be bypassed using voice chat anyway

I had this feature, and then I updated twice today and now its gone. Why though?? I now have a new feature that is you can report individual messages in an experience by tapping on a three dots icon in the top right hand side of the chat UI. Is this a replacement test build? I’d rather have the other feature than this one lol.

I think I’ve seen it in Work At a Pizza Place? IIRC it had separate buttons to toggle chat visibility and actually start a message. Don’t know if it still does.

Wow. I think they’ve considered community feedback here and moved it to its own button in the dropdown list:

This list is getting so long now :sob: but so happy there’s not going to be two chat icons right next to each other. Thanks to the chat team for listening here

We’ve started rolling this out to all eligible users now – most should have it by either tomorrow or next week.

i got it today afternoon, and its very cool! good update for mobile players. the ‘roblox chat’ name might still be confusing for some ppl

Is there any way in the future we will be able to pin some of these things from the hamburger menu? I think there was something like this when the new topbar was in beta.

In Roblox chat did not working on gamepad

The length of the list is rather unfortunate, but glad to see that it’s been isolated from the experience chat. No doubt less confusing this way.

Hi Creators,

We’re excited to announce that we’re rolling out Roblox Chat (platform chat) in experiences after the test we announced last month. We appreciate all of your feedback so far as we make way for both Roblox Chat and Experience chat to be available in experiences.

As part of this launch, we are introducing a new Roblox Chat icon chaticon across mobile, web, and desktop. This updated design will serve as the entry point for all of your chats with friends, and will soon include Party. We also heard your feedback and are returning to a modernized version of the Experience chat icon experiencechaticon With these changes, you’ll have the best of both worlds: easy access to chat with your friends and a dedicated space for chatting within experiences.

Roblox Chat is accessible in experiences alongside Experience chat

Summary of Changes

  • We are rolling out Roblox Chat in experiences for all audiences
  • We want to ensure the icons for both chats are easier to understand. We’ve updated the icons based on your feedback to the following:
    • New Roblox Chat icon chaticon, which symbolizes friends hanging out together and communicating on Roblox
    • Returning to a modernized version of the Experience chat icon experiencechaticon
  • We are still exploring the right placement for Roblox Chat. As part of this rollout, it will be accessible from the hamburger menu in experiences.
  • Notifications for new chats are enabled and can be easily snoozed

Stay tuned for more exciting updates about Party in the coming weeks!

I hope this can be disabled. I have no desire to support this and it’s confusing UI/UX in experiences right now due to moderation concerns and ROBLOX’s lack of developer-oriented bugfixes to TextChatService.

Is there a CoreGui API call we can make to disable PlatformChat explicitly while we wait for ROBLOX to fix Text Channels?

Thanks for listening to the feedback, it’s better in the hamburger menu with the new icon
When the “beta” UI will be removed?

Bumping this due to the recent extended rollout of this feature.

I’d prefer having this in the Roblox menu instead of adding another unremovable item to the hamburger menu, but if that won’t happen then please at least make GuiService respond to this window.

im pretty sure thats just the game cuz ive never had (or noticed) that and currently dont have it

It’s only on games with Voice Chat enabled and you will see the “beta” UI

Really? I don’t think that happens for me as most games have vc enabled. Perhaps it’s your device? Are you on pc or mobile?

Could we please get proper documentation on CoreGuiChatConnections? Because from the looks of things, this was very very very much changed, because my experience’s ability to use the chat button completely broke when this update, I do not know what the events are to use to be able to actually interact with that button, so if you could so please re-expose those events and functions, it’d be amazing.

Developers need to be able to disable platform chat. New, always-on-top UI is not appreciated, from a developer perspective. From a user perspective, Roblox itself is shifting away from being a platform, and instead to being a game.

I like this feature. It’s great. It just needs to be designed and in a respectful way, that remains creator centric. Look at the implementation of the new Captures feature for an example of how to do this right. It’s another great feature, designed to enhance games and the platform.

My recommendation is to have platform chat be accessible from the esc menu, always there for users when they intentionally step out of the game focus. Also, have it additionally integrated with the standard chat, but disablable by the developer of they choose to.

I might have missed something from the thread…
Is there any APIs (or APIs planned) that will allow developers to force “Roblox Chat” to open, and also be able to open to a specific chat window? Something like StarterGui:SetCore("RobloxChat",TargetUserID). We already have other APIs that open Core GUIs such as StarterGui:SetCore("DevConsoleVisible",true) and SocialService:PromptGameInvite(player)
I have a game that relies on cross-server communication, and with the recent announcement of cross-server communication not having any filtering functions (yet), this would be a nice alternative.
