The Blank Space - Dev Vlog #3

Hey there! Currently working on my new game “The Blank Space” this is a phycological horror, which takes you on a journey of someone who eats, sleeps, works in a repetitive cycle. this causes the player to go insane! this is a new level i’m working on, its kinda his past, and its played after he goes to sleep.

I’ve added deforming snow and a cabin which will have his “wife” in it. the dream ends after he goes to sleep inside the world.

So laggy when I try to watch the video…

Really neat. Main suggestion would be to make the snow less instantaneous - it seems to “lag”, since it suddenly jumps down to a “flattened” position. It has been a bit since I worked with deformed meshes, but I assume you could tween the relative bones in the mesh down to a flattened position? Making it smoother/more realistic.

The cabin is pretty empty (I assume you still have to add props), but the main frame seems good. More detail to the inside/outside (adding trim, etc) would be good. Trees in a forrest would make it more realistic/immersive.

Overall, looks good. Best of luck!

Well actually! I’m just eroding the terrain this causes less lag on the player and puts less strain on the server, I’ll make sure to make it so the snow doesn’t erode infront of the player, I’ll add some trees, thank you for the feedback!

lol nice someones found the same trick i did…

I also made the character like 3 times as big, cos you cant make the terrain smaller… and it makes the snow more responsive if you made them 10 times bigger you could probs get individual footsteps…

Doesn’t seem to happen to me.

Ah, gotcha. When you said “deforming”, I assume you meant mesh deformation

Definitely harder to make eroding terrain smooth.

its very possible though! I could just tween a very small part and just erode it every frame
