Great update. However surely there is no need for games with 1 player servers to be disabled below a certain age?
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but usually the more complicated a game is the harder it is to convert it to FE. Many of the spammy and clickbait games that often find themselves on the front page would be incredibly easy to convert to FE.
Does this mean that FE will be set to true by default on all new places and studio files?
This isn’t necessarily true because it’s possible for a player to join a one-player server which was recently vacated by another player. So any modifications made by the previous player would be visible to the new player.
Will these discovery restrictions apply on Console, as those servers as I thought cannot be exploited, with or without filtering enabled?
In the future Console and other platforms might play together, so you have to apply filtering on each platform. Each platform can be exploited by the way, it’s just that it’s harder to get third party tools on XBOX that can interfere with running games, if there are any that do that at all. That doesn’t mean there won’t ever be an exploiting application like that in the future though.
Why don’t we have FE on by default already anyways? Most games that rely on FE being disabled should still be able to work regardless; all this does is encourage good practice.
There goes most ODer games like tycoons and “Ride an airplane for $100000” type of games… I like this update!
To clarify, does this mean that non-FE games will be discontinued entirely at some point in the future, or just that they’re only going to be seen/playable by older audiences?
Frankly if anyone isn’t using FilteringEnabled yet, they’re behind.
This is a much needed change.
This is amazing! Soon we will have FE studio default ??
Thank goodness for that, this was another PR disaster waiting to happen - young kids playing games where any old person could just come along and do whatever they wanted to the game…
This is a really good step in the right direction.
I think this will in a way flush out all the old “outdated” content and drive people to actually scripting new content as well as reworking existing content.
Will we have adequate warning? I’m currently in the process of converting my game Notoriety to FE, but it will take some time. It would be nice to know a solid “due date” in order to make sure I can convert it in time.
I like this change and wanted it to happen but at the same time I feel sad for the small developers or the kids that could throw a game together, insert models etc. It’s gonna restrict the creativity just imaging again my young-self which is sad but I know this had to happen, giant gravity-defying balls, random skyboxes, random music, bad…scripts could not go on any longer.
I still do hope that ROBLOX continues to patch exploits that arise as they can still affect FE games (okay not so bad) but they can gain a self-advantage of getting to areas they shouldn’t. Exploiting gyros and such for car games also
Honestly, you’ve literally had about 2 years to convert your game to Filtering - it’s pretty much been enforced that your game may be taken down if not FE and exploited constantly, so this isn’t really a unexpected announcement.
I’m not really posting on behalf of my game but it would still be nice to know the specific date of a major change like this-- I know my game is my own responsibility.
Yeah was a general rant at anyone without FE - it makes me sad
yay
To be honest I don’t know how to do anything without Filtering Enabled
