what would be the point in the recommended for you tab if some of the games won’t even be recommended for me
Under acquisition in game analytics, will players gained through this be listed as “Home Recommendation” or “Sponsored Ads”?
All I see this as is further cluttering up the recommended section and actively driving away games that don’t use ads
What’s with all this talk about discoverability when it’s being handled like a joke?
I personally find it highly irritating when ads appear mixed with other content.
Ads should always have their own dedicated section so we are always immediately aware of what we are looking at.
I do not wish to check if something is an ad. I should know what it is based on where it is. And if I were to advertise again, I would not want to bother people so much with it.
Hey I have an idea - let people search for games themselves. Maybe, idk, a genre/tag filter?
These ads aren’t the typical ads you see in the internet, these are games made by developers that deserve to get recognition, having sponsored experiences appear in the recommendations section won’t affect anyone at all, y’all always have to complain when Roblox puts out something good.
This update is good because sponsored experiences have a higher chance to be seen & therefore more impressions. It’s really helpful for indie devs like me.
People complain about how the ads manager is expensive and how the old one can get you more impressions and plays by paying less, but if Roblox is actively offering extra opportunities for sponsored experiences to see the light of the day.. you will still complain.
It’s not appearing in the screenshots shown because it’s showing the recommended section, above that it will show Today’s picks, then recommended for you section before the continue section being at the top… so you did have to scroll up.
I feel like there have got to be other ways that don’t involve contaminating the recommended section
And at least half of the games currently residing in my sponsor section are rushed out slop that is easily and quickly manufactured for money, which I feel is significantly worse than the already locked down ads manager since a lot of games have boiled down to something that can be made very quickly and without much care since it’s as simplistic as a hypercasual mobile game, and it’s those games that get all the money and players, while actual games might not even get enough for 1 round of advertising at this point
There is nothing wrong with having rushed out cash grab slop games, a lot of developers are adults who want development to be their full time job or let’s say they want to earn the right amount of capital to pay out their bills and spend more time on game dev. They can even save some of those capital for future games that are unique which carry a high risk in the market.
If the market likes those type of games it’s more than reasonable enough for developers to capitalize on them. You are just complaining about games which are recommended to you based on YOUR previous activity (which is how the algorithm determines which type of games to recommend you to begin with)
Users will still have recommended games that are personalized to users. That will remain the same. However, we will be experimenting with showing additional games as “sponsored” (that users today will be seeing in sponsored sort) blended in the same section.
Players acquired though recommended will be under home recommendation, and players who click and play from sponsored (from the blended recommended for you section) will show up in the analytics under Sponsored Ads. This is no different from current analytics how players gained from sponsored sort are shown.
Better for devs, worst for consumer
Honestly, not sure if this going to be received well.
I love that you’re trying to make sponsoring more worth your while, but forcing it into every part of the platform only makes the Players hate the feature entirely.
Developers spend more time creating games than playing games, so this seems to only negatively effect Players rather than the Developers.
Not everything is about money..
Players want a smooth and reliable way of finding new experiences, not just cash-grab slop.
more sponsor discoverability is a good thing in my opinion
I do not want this because sponsored games are normaly really bad and I do not want them mixed with my recomended games.
Glad to see sponsorships getting some more visibility.
I know this isn’t exactly the same topic, but I would still like to see the following improvements as they would have the most impact by far:
Have you considered my suggestions on adjusting the Homepage accordingly?
As much as I agree that the charts page should be improved and there are issues with it, I believe having advertisements on the homepage is necessary because there are several tech companies like Facebook and TikTok that has a homepage/for you page respectively, on Facebook when you go on it, you are on the home tab and you can see sponsored posts, on TikTok, it’s called the “for you” page and you’ll often see promoted videos typically tailored/personalised to your interests which what the Roblox algorithm does. So it’s not unusual and it’s never the case where it doesn’t fit the “theme”.
Also, the home page probably has more impressions compared to the charts page, one reason is because as soon as you open the website/app… you are on it. The more impressions the better it is, as devs can see their promoted games getting more reach.
Reducing the friction for your game to be reached by players due to the effective recommended systems placed upon by Roblox is what satisfies developers, especially when the ads manager is more expensive than the previous one (which I don’t mind tbh, but there are other devs who might not have enough capital available)
if yall just shadowbanned brainrot already, perhaps i wouldn’t have been in denial of just smashing sponsored into recommended and putting brainrot in even more places to where the average platform user IQ feels significantly lower than before
i have a question, after a game spikes (sudden increase in home recommendation then lowers) is it possible to a game spike again? or it is left to the devs sustain their game (increase session time and retention) to slowly increase the player base again
