Are there any plans for giving other users the ability to use “Strong Language”, preferably 16+?
For me, they asked for my ID and then a picture of my face. Unsure if you did the ID verification right after it was introduced
What games are you talking about? Unless you’re specifically referring to games that include “private spaces” (I don’t get why Roblox didn’t just choose to ban this content entirely), but they’re still 18+ at the end of the day and are not shown to anybody younger.
You can get a bank account here in the uk even if you’re a minor, and there’s several other countries that allow minors to have bank accounts.
referring to games with private bedrooms and bathrooms and showers
again, ID verification isnt a foolproof way of protecting kids from these games, kids can use their parents ids, kids can convince their parents to “just take a selfie”, those games just shouldnt be on the platform which
i see you agree with.
Increasing minimum age requirements for Restricted experiences by 1 year is quite… interesting indeed. This could be another attempt to roll out RoDating, but hopefully this is just to settle the awkward 1-year gap between Roblox and government definitions of “adult.” Besides, Roblox has way too much on their hands to be rolling out their dating platform dream at the moment.
However, I would like to say that 100% of games (from what I’m aware) that have had issues with NSFW content weren’t “Restricted” experiences anyways, so this 17->18 age requirement thing is completely useless. In fact, I would say “Restricted” experiences are safer than non-restricted games on average, because condo-developers often have a target audience of under 18, whereas Restricted experiences are generally used for gambling/alcohol related content.
This may be a small step in the right direction, but currently it seems that non-restricted experiences need much more attention from Roblox than “Restricted” experiences.
At this rate I think roblox is going nuclear, but doing so to buy them time to implement something akin to the PEGI rating system, or other similar systems. Given they already have region pricing I don’t think it’s a stretch to implement region based age compliance built on the existing content rating systems of that region.
But that would also cost money and thus roblox may not want to sink in the effort. I’m cynical about these things given Roblox’s past behaviors.
As someone who is old enough to drink in the US I think having adult-only spaces is a good thing, if only because I both hate kids and I think there needs to be a very very very hard line between adults and kids on this platform. Roblox needs adults to keep the platform alive, but we are also inherently in a position of power over younger users in many ways and the best option, even if flawed, is to strictly limit the interactions between both groups.
are you guys like allergic to banning condo games or what bc this “18+” bs is not what we want. just ban the damn games.
They make you live scan your face.
You know, I’m not entirely against this, but I’m a little confused on why it’s necessary to suddenly make ALL 17+ games 18+.
17+ games were 17+ for a reason; it’s clearly meant to mirror M-rated games, which are also 17+.
Anything labeled 18+ is usually just always sexually explicit content. This gives off the impression that such content is allowed on Roblox, when it isn’t.
I guess with Roblox now specifically choosing to define “private spaces” and “adult settings” in content maturity, it makes more sense to bump “Restricted” experiences up to 18+, but also… the main concern was with “private spaces”, not any of the other descriptors.
I feel like it would’ve made more sense to just make the “private spaces” descriptor force the game to be 18+, but any other “Restricted” experience would stay 17+. Similar to how the “social hangout” descriptor forces your game to be 13+, while other “Moderate” experiences can stay 9+.
(Or just ban “private spaces” outright. I’m kind of getting the feeling that a lot of people hearing about this situation didn’t even know that Roblox already had 17+ games.)
Because having to label anything as “18+” on Roblox just feels really awkward.
Unless, this was future-proofing for potentially adding more adult-oriented features in “Restricted” experiences without having to worry about 17 vs 18. It’s only a 1-year difference anyway so this change probably won’t affect that many people.
And adding more features (not dating) would be cool! Because you can’t really do much with “Restricted” experiences besides just providing a spot for older users to hang out. They’ve felt mostly neglected, especially since “strong language” in chat has been completely non-functional for months.
Some ideas could be: 18+ assets (e.g. music with swear words), some drug usage, and mature humor. Also, making it easier for verified 18+ users to find “Restricted” experiences. Right now it kinda feels like Roblox is trying to hide them.
Are those ratings actually enforced though?
1.4k ccu, 3.4 million visits. A game involving russian roulette is rated 9+ and suddenly being ignored by moderation unlike before (it’s literally using stolen assets from old games).
This is probably a good change, it’s certainly safer then not,
Though I would like to see it expanded upon and maybe (preferably) automatically applied to the ancient unrated and abandoned games rather then placing them all under review and loosing decades of history.
It should be easy enough, if you can auto private the games you should be able to auto rate/restrict them while still leaving them available.
In my opinion, this is the best change Roblox could’ve made.
Now Roblox finally bumped the number by 1, It is most likely very appreciated by most of the Roblox Community since most wanted it to be 18+ instead of 17+.
I still dont entirely get why Roblox made it 17+ in the first place.
Thank you for the recent updates regarding content maturity labels. As a verified user aged 20, I appreciate the commitment to enhancing age-appropriate content access on the platform.
I would like to inquire whether users who have their content maturity settings configured to “Moderate” or below will still encounter 17+ (now 18+) games on their homepage. Limiting the visibility of these titles would significantly improve the Home Screen, I always get these 17+ games recommended to me.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Oh yea, this game got removed a while
But tbh, I think why those blood is allowed in 9+ age level…
Why not also introduce a new age rating between Moderate and Restricted? It could be Mature (16+), which could still allow for more intense content such as blood/gore and strong language.
I am all for 18+ option. Just that more options should be a thing!
So it will go like this:
Minimal (5+) → Mild (9+) → Moderate (13+) → Mature (16+) → Restricted (18+)
In my opinion, if it wasn’t for all the dating stuff, I think keeping 17+ at 17 would be completely fine.
I would love to see 18+ become it’s own category for games made for dating and romantic content, while 17+ retains everything minus the dating & romantic content part.
I say this because big titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5 are rated Mature 17+. Understandably, Roblox will take the safer approach and tone down a lot of the more adulty content, but I still believe that 17 year old’s should be allowed to play 17+ (Now 18+) games that do not feature dating and romantic content.
I believe these should be the differences between 17+ and 18+ games on Roblox:
Age | Guidelines |
---|---|
17+ | May contain strong violence, heavy realistic blood, moderate crude humor, unplayable gambling content, the presence of alcohol, strong language, and/or moderate fear. |
18+ | May contain strong violence, heavy realistic blood, heavy crude humor, dating, romantic themes, private spaces, unplayable gambling content, the presence of alcohol, strong language, and/or moderate fear. |
Although understandably, the reason why a lot of people wanted 17+ go to 18+ was because Private Spaces got thrown into 17+ games.
