Is it possible to have materials that don’t overwrite others?
Finally a solution to preserving the old materials once they’re replaced with the new ones!
Thank you Roblox for this anyways, however the only problem I have about this that old games wont have their old look.

Wow! Good luck with that game. Just by looking at those pics, I’d think that’s a Source, UE5 or Unity game. Hopefully this update can improve it even more.

Amazing update! It would be great if we were able to add new materials rather than only overriding existing materials however.
Yes, as mentioned in the roadmap, it will be delivered in two phases , i.e. upgrading the built-in material (with a switch so older places won’t change) and also material library expansion.

Time to make an anime texture pack. Wonder how it will look on classic maps.
Also no clue how this black magic works, this texture is originally orange, but somehow I can change the color. Super cool, I thought we would have to upload grayscale maps.

Will there one day be a way to add custom terrain decoration and to customize the existing grass? It’s been 2 years since the 3D grass has been added, and we’d like to at least have some customization over the style of grass.
It should work as the roblox staff said in the other reply, but I also know that Envmaps tend to be a bit dodgy, move your camera around a bit (it did work for me)
Can’t wait for the final release. I’d especially like to see the inclusion of custom grass textures for each material (note the plural). Realistic grass never has the same shape, color or length, so being able to assign multiple textures as well as their densities to a single material would be amazing.

Finally, another update the community will love. This is so much better than the old plan of forcing materials on the devs, and I’m so glad you took community feedback into consideration. I feel like this is one step closer to a more renewed relationship between the devs and roblox as a company.
Please add the ability to select the AlphaMode as well, similar to how the SurfaceAppearance does it. This feature is an amazing game changer and can’t wait to use it in productivity!
