Honestly this reminds me of the friends limit update, no one seems to really know why that one was done either because the given reason sounded off, i wonder if there is something else at play here…
Meanwhile i have to lower 23 pages down to 17, this is 13 years worth of favorited games, to make things worse, roblox added this wonderful 5 minute cool down that kicks in after every 8 unfavorites, i have a little over 200 games to remove at this rate, otherwise i have to deal with a lot of games hidden from me that i may want to go back to.
While I do think this favorites thing is a bit odd, it does kind of makes sense for friends at least. Friends were basically replaced by the follower system. I remember a time when I had well over 2k friends, because there was no reason to remove friends. But I think the friend system is meant for actual friends that you interact with more than once. Even now, I have 175 friends and I don’t remember most of them, but it’s very time consuming to sort through it.
Quite a small limit for a corporation whose player count is easily in the millions, if not billions. Is there a particular reason for such a low number? Surely the technology is there to get more than 500 individual items.
I agree with @EmperorDitto here - won’t bother me, but the small limit is honestly quite absurd given the technicial capability the website demonstrates at the moment.
As part of our ongoing commitment to upgrade the platform and provide everyone with more reliable services, we have unfortunately run into a situation where we have to make some tradeoffs.
What part of this “upgrade” results in having to forego this sort of change? While this post is transparent in the sense that says “yes this is happening” it gives no good reason nor insight into why it has to. Of course, I trust the ROBLOX engineers to make sound decisions regarding technical capabilities of the website, but 500 is very, very small when you take a moment to consider just how much UGC exists on ROBLOX.
I’m not sure how I have 38 pages of favourites given how little I use the feature nowadays… then I scrolled to the halfway point and saw something called “Shoot Are92 into the grinder!” and all was clear - I used to use it a lot more than I do now. I doubt I actually have use for this list given that most of these are ancient and highly unlikely to function, but at least I have the list.
We appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this change. After reading through your comments and feedback, we decided that we will no longer proceed to restrict the viewing of a user’s favorites to just 500 items.
In early 2024, we will provide an updated API that will enable more performant pagination of a user’s favorite items (without a pagination limit), and ask you to switch over to it. We will update you before the end of the year and provide advance notice so you have time to make changes.
As of now, everything will continue to work as it always has. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
I’m glad your team has actually decided to look deeper into it because 500 seriously seems like a very small and inconvenient limit for such a huge corporation such as Roblox who likely has access to better technology.
I’d love to hear more about this new API once it’s released.
I love the communication you guys have provided with this update! I’m very glad that you’ve decided to rethink this update and provide an improved, non-restricting API update instead.
