We’re updating Heads!

I know this update would be coming about eventually, but the idea still seems slightly out-of-place. How did a simple game where we had blocky avatars, turn into semi-realistic avatars which we can control using our cameras?

:wut:

I hope this system is opened up to UGC creators

But instead of having it be just a set number of facial expressions in a package… what about splitting it apart into a customizable “expression slots”?

So players could mix and match a wide arrange of faces and expressions if they want to (such as an anime type face with big shiny eyes for their default smile… and then a big angry glowing red eyes face for frown).

It would lack tweening between the expressions / poses. But if you added in a little bit of deformation to parts, it could give an effect of tweening half way with one face before snapping to the other… not perfect, but enough to make it seem smoother.

Anyhow, that’s my idea for how to really make this feature shine

Why is Roblox trying to kill classic faces while only a fraction of them are converted to this new dynamic head system? We still have classic clothing despite the catalog of new clothing being significantly fleshed out. These features can happily co-exist.

Pulling all of these classic faces off-sale is nothing but forced adoption, which makes no sense given all of these faces aren’t even converted yet, and the technology is fundamentally not backwards compatible with different faces on different head shapes. Users who have an inventory of classic faces and classic heads will now forever have significantly more customization options than new users.

im assuming the people who made these dynamic heads weren’t able to try this with any accessories related to the placement of the eyes

They most definitely didn’t, and we are the ones who are gonna pay for that factor in the long run.

Also why were classic head faces remade with a higher price range? why?
Why are free faces now 120 robux?

Don’t know why. Perhaps they feel the need to increase the price to show how valuable this is, or something?

As much as I wish that Roblox would be able to review the changes they’re making, the chances are slim. Taking cheap classic-faces off the catalog isn’t going to somehow encourage Players to choose more expensive dynamic heads…

I’m sure the Roblox NSFW creators are dying for this update. Another useless and damaging feature to the book.

How about we just don’t?
Leave the classic heads & faces alone. They are meant to be there as an option, not considered forgotten media.
I don’t think this is what anyone wanted. Some developers - Sure - We can now have creepy-looking animated Roblox faces. Great for a horror game.

There will always be a good reason for them existing though - Some of the faces are okay and I can see why people would wanna add them to their games. But to face the fact that the originals are getting put off sale is… yeah. I’m not happy, so aren’t the majority.

I would’ve preferred if this was a developer option to have these dynamic faces be used in experiences instead of literally REPLACING THEM with the classic ones.

(Context: Roblox has been taking Classic Faces off sale. There are now only 2 free faces, the rest being seemingly removed. Even the man face.)

This is awesome!
For those who are disagreeing, this is NOT forced even if you have 3D faces equipped, same way like Voice Chat it is optional.
This could go really well and make everyone’s avatar with more life!
Stevie seems happy about it too!
So nothing is being changed really, just a new feature.

I wonder how Roblox is going to moderate Players because of the expressions they’re making in-game. Are they going to record the Player when they first join the game?

Oh please release a dynamic :3 face!

It’s literally what they do every time, like what happened to Filtering Enabled, RejectCharacterDeletions, and very recently the physics update which completely messed R6 legacy games up. Roblox releases it, after a while they recommend users to use the new feature, then they completely remove the old feature, for example all the new character features are now “exclusive” to R15/Rthro. They dont like their past history for some reason…

I think that Roblox kinda hates being looked at as just a simple “lego game” now. It wants to be much more than just that, hence all the stuff it’s doing to modernize, be more like other game engines, and abandon its past. Of course, Roblox is allowed to do this, and modernization is generally not a bad thing, but I’m not sure why Roblox feels it needs to force people to use Dynamic Heads, unless they’re concerned that not enough people will use Dynamic Heads if they don’t? Most of the outrage isn’t even about the feature itself, but the FORCING of the feature onto people that don’t want to use it.

Well, Roblox took some cheap classic faces off-sale, and repriced them as more expensive dynamic heads. Would be affecting the Roblox portion of the community that are more… thriftier.

Cameras can be wrong sometimes
Probably not, if they had an Kinect for PC, I would buy it.
But if they sell our data to “za dark web” then i’m gonna be sad. This isn’t what Roblox used to be.

LET’S NOT TALK ABOUT THE FACT THE FACES HAVE TONGUES.
Who in their right mind would use that feature of the new heads? Other than… what was previously mentioned.
