While this is an improvement I’m taking it with a grain of salt
This update appears to not be coming out alongside the heads update at the same time based on what was stated by Roblox above- we can’t trust Roblox to actually bring this to production. There have been plenty of “upcoming” changes reported by both Roblox and external news sources that simply don’t exist yet after years. Additionally while the video looks authentic, there is no way for us to confirm the source/legitimacy of the video.
The reason everyone is pissed about the update is because the way Roblox describes how its going to be replacing the static heads while making an option to just change back.
This update not only came out of the blue but we’ve had these faces for years, and for Roblox to just come in and forcefully start taking this down, mind you without even making a poll or anything asking the PLAYERS if they even wanted this in the first place.
As you said the only people this appeals to is investors and Big Corporations and the small minority of people who actually like the update, who literally just come to Roblox to make more sponsored events. Everyone’s fine with Roblox being corporate as long as they don’t push out extremely unlikeable updates like this crap. Almost everyone has grown up with these faces, and for Roblox to just take them away from us and just expect us to grow on updates like these is just baffling.
Also its not really classic OG “cringe” as you refer it to, everyone’s just grown up with these faces and Roblox expects us to also just grow up with these updates, at least the new players that come to the platform. But for the most part almost everyone’s taken an appeal to the current Roblox face we have, even the ones that are memed a lot like the winning smile and event faces like the Tai Verdes face, but no one is really happy with Roblox forcing these faces.
To me, as long as Roblox doesn’t make any of the static old faces offsale and makes a separate section for animated heads, then I’m fine.
Although we will be replacing the classic face decals with animated heads, the iconic Roblox faces that we all love are not going away. As soon as a face receives an upgrade, we will remove the equivalent classic face from the Marketplace and replace it with the upgraded animated head so there is only one version available for purchase.
Am I misinterpreting this or do these two sentences have totally opposite meanings?
I suppose “going away” meant deleting the old assets outright rather than simply making them unobtainable… but, uhh, don’t do either of those things, thanks?
The “two versions of the same face” thing is such a non-issue. It could easily be solved by just including what version the face is in the name of it.
Like “Classic Smile” and “Smile” with the second being the new animated face.
There is seriously no reason to remove already existing faces. Just leave old stuff be please.
Even if naming it this way doesn’t work for whatever reason you can always just do this instead:
-Smile [Classic]
-Smile [Animated]
PSO2 New Genesis actually does this where there are multiple accessories with similar names so they include short signs at the end of the name of each accessory like
-Shirt [Ba], Shirt [In]
With [Ba] meaning Basewear and [In] meaning Innerwear
To be completely honest, a lot of faces don’t really even need a dynHead equivalent. Stuff like joyous smile, sinister, check it and many others are ALREADY FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ON THEIR OWN. The appeal of those faces was a single fixed expression on your character. Why do away with that and restrict our choice?
That was the initial point anyway of Roblox making all of these faces, they were supposed to have there own expressions, and give your character expressions. So has Roblox just straight up forgotten about what the point of classic faces where? Why do all classic faces need to get deleted just so that they can have a Happy or Sad or Sad or Mad variant?
Like does Roblox not see how these two faces already have an expression?
You can tell that one is more sadder and the other is more happy, so imagine if Roblox just made a happy variant and a sad variant for each face, completely changing what the point of them even were.
Pretty sure it won’t, simply because I don’t even think it’s allowed to do such things, they need to ask for your permission (at least on mobile devices),
and I think enabling it without the user’s consent might get them in legal trouble.
Have you considered just making animated heads revert to classic when a classic face is equipped? I think this would massively cut down on confusion and complexity, and keep everyone happy…
Another observation.
2D faces being taken off sale, despite dynamic heads not being compatible with R6 avatars.
It’s possible for devs to make R6 avatars compatible with a bunch of effort, no reason Roblox can’t.
This is what Moods are for. A Mood animation is basically like an idle animation for your face; it’s your default facial expression for when you aren’t currently emoting.
