What are you attempting to achieve?
I am making a game spawn area where your avatar is displayed on the middle circle
and 2 friends in your group are displayed on the other 2 circles. The background is supposed to be some sort of cargo building, how could I achieve more of a cargo building look?
What is the issue?
My current issue is I feel it does not look realistic enough. I would like it to be realistic enough a user can easily say “Oh, that’s like a cargo area or a warehouse”, I feel have not achieved that.
What solutions have you tried so far?
I have tried adding windows, it does not look right because it’s just blue outside. I have tried adding people walking but the scale is not right. I have tried a slanted roof as well.
If anyone is looking for more information on what I am aiming for here is a real life picture of a cargo building.
I guess more like a warehouse.
Any help is appreciated! This is my first project that I wanted detailed so it’s a little challenging. Also if I posted this is the wrong forum please tell me!
Have a good day, Nightly
Edit
I probably should of included what it looks like now, here you go.
While it looks okay currently, there are a few things you could do to make this build even better;
Make use of wedges for that realistic cargo container look
In this image, you can notice how you could use wedges to give that grate-like effect on the sides, as well as how you can use cylinders and other parts to achieve the front look.
User a wider range of materials
In the image you provided, I can’t really tell the material of the crate.
If it’s not already metal, change it to metal. Also, make use of lighting technologies to achieve dark areas/shadows which you would see in real life
Add "markers"
In a shipyard, there would most likely be painted markers to alert technicians/workers where to place the crates, so I would suggest adding some form of that.
try adding some detail to the cargo like outlines and preferably different colours to suit the vibe of the reference picture, it looks like a big block
Also don’t sink the containers into each other, the stepped look where this occurs catches your eye.
You may want to play around with different Lighting properties to bring out the shadows to show off the details in your containers.
The walls and floor all have the same colour/material, which makes them kind of bland. For the floor maybe add some yellow ‘paint’ lines (Parts that sit just .002 studs above the surface) to break it up and add detail like roads for forklifts and for organizing where containers sit.
In the picture, the roof has metal rods. Try adding some of those! This definitely looks pretty cool. I think in the picture following the more round roof is your best bet. Make the crates more like the ones in the picture with holes or more like plastic crates or maybe adding some boxes. Looks really cool so far keep up the good work:)
This is looking good so far. To improve I suggest you make the containers more realistic, you could also add more lighting to make it look realistic. The last thing I can suggest is to add more detail to the roofs as they do in the real picture.
Vents
You could do a lot to improve this build, the key to making a detailed build is to really focus on the small details and include them. You should use picture references and add each little detail.
Hello! I added some of the features you were talking about here, I agree with the containers and I think it still needs a lot of work. Thanks for the replies though!
Hello! Thanks for all the suggestions, I did add the roof beams here, I also slanted the roof. I do agree with the crates and adding boxes as that would make it way more warehouse feeling. Would you suggest adding like forklifts around the place?
Hello! I agree with the decals but one question, what decals would you mean by “pipes”? Like a more realistic metal to go on the back pipes? I added some industrial lights in my V2 which you can find linked in the replies. Thanks for the reply!
