ISSUE
I have been building on ROBLOX for only about two years now and still have room to grow and improve. As I started, I only made more realistic looking buildings, however, I wanted to improve my portfolio’s variety by adding different building styles. As I was going for a low-poly style, I came to realize that I do not even know what low-poly building is. Could someone please explain to me what low-poly and high-poly is?
I have built some things recently that I assumed were low-poly, but I still don’t have a good understanding of what it is. What would you consider these buildings as?
Nice builds!
Low poly building is self-explanatory. Low poly means Low polygon (count), so basically in Roblox that would translate to less bricks. Gives more of a cartoony sort of feel.
Realism does not mean high-poly.
Non-realism does not mean low-poly.
Poly is a measure of triangle count. Tell me, does your build contain a lot of triangles? If so it’s high-poly. If your building contains a low amount of triangles, then it would be considered low-poly.
From what I understand low-poly just refers - means low polygon count. I’m sure it’s used as flat shading textureless build from what I heard people normally get low poly wrong as they say it’s more of a style but it just means a low amount of polygons I wouldn’t get confused with the overall term or meaning it’s not a style.
However I wouldn’t go to for because @Aotrou explains the meaning of low poly and high poly I would recommend checking it out you’ll get a good understanding on what the overall meaning is.
The phrase ‘low poly’ means models with a low poly triangle count.
If you were to take a model and break it down, you would see it’s made of lots of little triangles.
Low poly just means your models will have very few of those triangles building it up.
It’s a comfortable and warm style for both modellers and players, and if I’m not wrong, it also improves game performance!
