Working on a large project with Team Create is a miserable experience. A master list

No exact repro really. Seems to have something to do with searching, clicking on a result, emptying the search. It’s been happening since the dawn of time. It has happened twice in the last 10 minutes to me. Requires a reboot.

Edit: it happened a third time just now. I can barely work. Maybe something changed recently to make it worse…

Personally still experiencing a lot of lag when selecting workspace or a lot of parts. This also seems to be the case for non-team create places.

When selecting 5-10k models I usually get a 30s-2min freeze. I understand it’s a large amount of models, but still would expect studio to be able to handle it faster.

I find it more disrupting in team create though bc there’s like a 1/2 chance you’ll get disconnected.

hey @apenzijncoolenleuk1 did our 6/20 release of perf improvements help here at all?

We also have a few more improvements we’re looking at for selection perf right now. I’ll let you know as we get closer to shipping and would love to get validation if the new changes work for you.

Hi everyone, we have another round of updates!

  • We’ve released a fix for issue #2 above “CTRL+Z not working.” This should be rolled out to everyone now so please give it a try.
  • We have released several optimizations for #6 issue “Typechecking/autocomplete often stops working entirely.” In our testing, this drastically improves the experience for Windows, but Mac users may still see slowness. We are working on the Mac issue.

Please give these a try and let us know if there are any issues.

This was a ladder model. I deleted it. I hit ctrl+z. The ladder parts are missing and the models are all screwed up.

Thanks for your reply.

I’m not sure if that update helped. It probably saved a couple seconds, but when you have whitescreen freezes of 30s-1min or more, that’s unnoticeable. I can share our map place as a local file in DMs.

hey @ForeverDev can you check this for us? Go to View > Performance > ChangeHistory > Constrained Data Size and check if it’s less than 262,000,000. If it’s lower it might be another bug we need to investigate. Thanks!

It happened again… Our map just gets annihilated and things disappear. Things missing randomly. Not sure when it happened so the Constrained Data Size might not be recent.

@ForeverDev we’re having trouble reproing this issue with CTRL+Z. Can you give us more details?

  1. Do you see this issue only in Team Create? Or even if you’re working locally (saved to file or unsaved)?
  2. What are the exact repro steps? just delete a bunch of models and then ctrl+z? or did you have any other steps in between?
    Feel free to DM me if you need to share a lot of info.

I’m having these issues as well. I also find that disabling Team Create somehow makes Studio less laggy.

Downside to this is only one of us can publish changes at a time.

Definitely having most of these issues as well. The most common one I’ve had since this last studio update is my studio will not close when I press the “X” button. It will hang on for over 10+ minutes and I have to manually close it through Task Manager. This is getting frustrating because it has to be done numerous times throughout the day.

hey @OnlyRoids quick question here - why do you need to close Studio multiple times a day? What problems are you seeing?

Sometimes docking or just weird issues can occur. The biggest reason behind closing though would be working between projects and multiple place files for specific branches. For example, you might have a game that has 5+ different worlds under a universe and need to make a quick edit in one, and then open another to do something different.

The most recent thing occurring for me now is there is absolutely no intellisense or autofill in scripts.

I can agree with you on this too, I can open my game in team create just fine. But from time to time, my studio will just end up freezing for 20 minutes before it finally reloads me back into my Team Crate. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the autosave, Because I have autosave off but It does this without fail every single time. Even if I’m just sitting in a script doing nothing.

Hello everyone, it’s been a while! Studio team has been hard at work improving Studio performance for large places, and we’ve recently shipped some significant improvements:

  1. Output log performance (by 100% or more!) when printing tables or duplicate messages quickly and repeatedly. We believe this addresses issue #9 in the above post.
  2. Massive perf improvements in Explorer (Beta) - search, selection, editing, and moving thousands of instances are much quicker and hang-free. There’s a bug that’s been happening extremely frequently to my team and I after this last studio update where all studio key binds break completely until you close studio and reload it. This happened every other day or so before this last update, but now it’s gotten worse. You can’t press F5 to play, CNTRL + K to clear console, ALT + P to publish, and etc. It happens to me at least 20 times per day while working 8 hours.

Very excited to check out the new Explorer window once packages are supported more! :grinning:
