Would a board game using fake money be gambling?

So, if I were to make a board game style game using cash from in-game currency (Making sure that you can’t get boosted chances of winning by spending money), would that be counted as gambling? The game would be primarily by chance with a small touch of skill but i’m wondering if it would break TOS.

Edit: The game wouldn’t be a casino game, just a classic board-game style.

Player decisions inside a boardgame can be a measure of skill in my opinion.

I don’t think so as it’s an in game currency. As long as it doesn’t involve one side winning robux and the other side losing robux then it’s fine.

I saw an interesting thread a few weeks back discussing the fine lines that determine whether something is considered gambling or not, albeit, relating to loot crates.

One of the comments made in the thread made the important distinction that if you have in-game currency and it cannot be purchased with robux or any other IRL currency, you can use it in cases like your board game. Essentially if the in-game currency cannot be purchased then it has no actual value since there is no conversion rate and isn’t considered gambling.

However, you might run into some questions if you blatantly mirror gambling, even if your currency cannot be purchased or exchanged. An example would be a casino game with roulette, slots, and blackjack. That might be an issue.

Apologies if you saw my deleted reply; I have rewritten it as I reread the original post.

If this currency is purchased with Robux then it is gambling. Spending real life money on Robux (which is what non-developers often do) and subsequently spending that money on an in-game currency which is spent on the chance of winning something is gambling, highly similar to the lottery or any other form of gambling that involves real money and chance.

If this in-game currency is not purchased by Robux, it is not gambling. If this in-game currency is earned purely by in-game means and does not involve the opportunity of real money translating into a possibility of profit, then it is fair. You can put it into your game so long as it does not encourage gambling, which would be against the TOC.

There won’t be any currency purchasable for robux, the only items purchasable would be cosmetics.

Then so long as your game does not directly encourage the act of gambling it’s fine. See Breaking Point, which has an arcade machine. The user can spend points to play Space Invaders. If they win, they get points; if not, they’re lost. It works as an arcade, but not a casino.

So long as there are no casino references and it is child-friendly, should be perfectly fine. Thanks for asking.

This is a similar situation as to what @Widgeon faced when creating ‘The Plaza’

Games are games, card games, slots, roulette etc are all fine until a bet is being placed which involves random chance and robux. Roblox will step in and say this is not ok and ask you to change it. If you want to make a casino they don’t care so long as you don’t use robux or robux purchasable currency as a medium for betting. People have tried to get around this by always offering a prize in any betting outcome and this is also not ok and is just trying to find a loophole in the TOS.
