[$13-26 / hr] Hiring a Map Designer

Please keep the following in mind before reading

We are NOT hiring someone to build our map, or do ANYTHING in studio. We’re simply just looking for someone to make a drawing for our map, and to strategically place buildings, areas, etc. This would make our lives easier.

This jobs payment is negotiable. Since this is an odd job, we can pay on the basis of $14-23 / hour of work, depending on how many hours you spend on this commission.

Your portfolio and experience determines how much your starting pay (per hour) will be for this commission.

About The Job

Hello there! You’re looking for a job that pays well, and we have one for you today. This is a job that just about any experienced builder or game designer can perform adequately at, and one that will not take up too much of your time.

Skyrise Studios is looking for someone to design a map for our game.

As to the designing part, we are looking for someone to simply sketch out or draw in a painting program. The map should be completely functional without any minor or major errors.

If we decide to hire you, you will be given the following items:

  • A detailed description about the terrain we want, which would be a large main island broken into 2 large terrain formations connected via bridge, and 3 smaller islands.

  • A list of every building we want in the city that would be located on the large main island. You would need to strategically place these buildings according to how players would spend time in our game, and where they would spend the most time at. We would give you the analytics for this. As an example, you might make a “red square” the location of a restaurant. You would need to also draw out every fillers location, a filler is a building that has no interior and is simply there for looks.

  • A list of every area on the main island. Example: A beach, a city, an airport, a neighborhood, etc.

  • A description of what goes on at each building, for you to identify where to place them strategically.

  • A list of everything that would be placed on the 3 smaller islands, and of course the main island.

Some other details to consider:

  • You would need to identify a proper part count limit for this map, and make a size estimate on the area (in studs) for the entire map. An example could be that the map is 9k x 9k studs in area. To do this, we will give you the size of each building in studs, and you would need to use that information to identify how big the city would be, and how big the terrain should be for player enjoyment. An average player should be able to spend < 20 minutes in this game without getting bored.

  • You would also need to make this map drawing look nice, it can’t look bad. By this I mean that you would need to draw some spaces for tunnels for cars, etc.

  • More details may be provided here if requested by comment.

The game is medium-poly and should be around the same part count as most medium sized maps.

Upon taking this commission, you will have 7 days to complete the drawing of this map. We will give you any information you need to help you complete this task.

Payment

As said before, this payment is highly negotiable. We will be able to pay an hourly rate of $14-23 / hour, or a flat fee at the end of the commission if requested.

Expectations

You are expected to work diligently at all times on this commission and you must talk to us in a professional manner. You would be given daily quotas by our development manager until the 7 day period is over.

You should have (at minimum) experience using a painting program, experience with Roblox Studio, and experience with game design and using analytics to place items from our list onto a map strategically.

hello, I’m wondering if the map design has to be made from a program or could it be made with materials like pencil and paper?

You could use a pencil and paper, but you would need to use colors as well and make a map key. If colors are not available, you might be able to just name the buildings by putting the names in the squares.

ok thank you for letting me know, i will be applying :+1:
