16:9 Experience Thumbnails Are Coming to Home in April – Update Yours Now

This seems rather familiar.

Roblox history aside, I genuinely like this change. A 16:9 experience allows game designers to do things such as list update information in the thumbnail instead of in the title, which is incredibly helpful when the only other way to boost CCU is to start a community around your game because Roblox’s Updates still aren’t consistent and group shouts aren’t on the homepage anymore.

Why can’t there be a separate thing like the icon where we can upload this new thumbnail?

The norm of thumbnails shown on the game page of a specific game being for gameplay is now gone with this change. If they are not separate, people will treat thumbnails like icons: the goal of grabbing attention rather than actually showing gameplay.

And, if there is to be both thumbnails and icons showed, as the OP depicts, doesn’t that lead to a question of how my game will be shown? Icon or thumbnail?

Deceptive marketing is an issue either way, but I feel the thumbnail icon thing should be on its own. Thoughts? @ivy_poisond

Not exactly related, but I find it extremely funny how much Fortnite is trying to mimic the Roblox website/app experience. If you showed this to someone who didn’t know what Fortnite or Roblox was, they probably wouldn’t be able to tell.

They got every detail down, even to the CCU count.

Probably would give a little more color with a void background once again.

For anyone wondering, this is how it looks on the website with real images:

Oh this looks neat! I think I like this update.

Similar ratio to video thumbnails pretty much.
Gives a bit extra room for expression and more populated scenes.

Could even use an screenshot of your game as thumbnail because now it will actually fit the image dimensions!

I have to agree with this, It would be really unfortunate if the first thumbnail was forced to be simpler than the rest in order to be shown on home. Icons (either 1:1 or 16:9) should be rather simple and the thumbnails you click into should be where the more detailed images come in.

People make more profit on fortnite creative lol

Why so wide though how about a more subtle increase like 4:3 for the icon it would also give enough room for game statistics bellow to give nice square tiles.

Also why is Roblox making the home page into the next discover page why don’t they just drop you at the actual discover page if that’s what works best instead of remaking the whole thing and renaming it “Home”?

Looks cool but:

  1. Only 4 games per row is very few for a desktop screen.
  2. With less games listed, it’s more important for the recommendation system to serve relevant content to the user.

Funny that most of these thumbnails in the screenshots are jailbreak thumbnails lol

I tested this early, it is really good from mixing both square and rectangle! Like theres more information to go off from!

That is the bad side to it but if you look at the positives, it gives developers more space to put more information for people looking for a game!

Honestly, It would be really nice to have a setting for homepage in general but the setting doesn’t seem to exist
