Controversial statement here. This will be a big one, so hold on to something.
You don’t have to have profanity in your game for it to be mature.
Shocking, I know. You could always just, I don’t know, not allow profanity period, and nothing would be lost. Nothing good comes from profanity. This is fact.
Mature themes are more than just “strong language”. Heck, strong language detracts from it, and should never be encouraged.
If I had a nickel for every company that stored data after saying it wouldn’t, I’d have dozens of nickel. Whether or not Roblox or their partner is one of those is impossible to know unless they get breached, which will hopefully never happen.
Either way, it’s more about the principle of it. I don’t think my face or ID are particularly valuable (I go out into public spaces fairly regularly and my address is available in the public record if you know where to look). I do however think it’s stupid that this is a requirement for things so I’m not going to do it.
I do not see how it is stupid to be required for 17+ games. This seems like the perfect way to ensure no one underage is playing those games. Recently more companies are asking for ID to be verified. I think you just need to get with the times. They already said they do not store the data, so you are just complaining on the assumption that they are lying.
“Roblox does not receive a copy of, or have access to, your Biometric Data.” (https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/4412863575316)
They define Biometric Data at the top of that same article. As far as I understand, it does not mean your verification selfie or photo ID, as that would contradict the next quote. It is the data generated by measurements of your biological characteristics from the aforementioned.
“Limited Roblox personnel may access the photo of your ID and selfie stored by Veriff or Persona for compliance purposes.” (https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/4412863575316)
Direct confirmation that Roblox itself can access your photo ID and verification selfie within the 90 day retention period.
“Our service provider, Veriff or Persona, will respectively delete your Biometric Data within 90 days after collection, unless required by law (such as a warrant or subpoena) to keep your Biometric Data for a longer period.” (https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/4412863575316)
Once again this goes back to whether your photos are considered Biometric Data or simply a source to create Biometric Data from.
@RockStarKev9 i don’t see why it matters. Do these people think that someone at roblox is gonna even be able to access data like that and commit identity fraud
i would assume so, but you should probably test it first with another account just to make sure. People have been taken down for even the slightest things inside scripts.
So you may not use any vulgar language targeted at someone(which is off course obvious) but I’m wondering if this also applies to npc characters that are using strong language at each other?(like in the gta franchise) I think the answer is no, but I’m just curious.
cant wait for voicelines to be profane!
I hope the rules will be lighter when its ingame profanity between two non players (ofcourse im not talking racism and other no gos)
why would you prevent it?
profane language is simply a lot less restricting to the people, and us creative heads showing people have much more natural dialouges
Just saying, the results of this are horrible. I’m all in favor of profanity where appropriate, but now we can’t even say “Damn” or “Crap” anymore?? Come on, this is ridiculous. Roblox chatting has NEVER been worse.
