1867 (Tutorial For New Players)

Welcome

Welcome, Time Traveller, to the Roblox 1867 game tutorial.

This game is an authentic replica of Luxembourg city, as it once was in 1867. It was researched from old photographs, to be as realistic as possible.

When you land in 1867 Luxembourg, you will spawn outside the city gates. Walk through Eichtor Gate, to enter the city. If you want, you can press the ‘shift’ key as you move, in order to sprint a little faster. If, however, you like to stroll slowly, just press the ‘Z’ key to toggle the slow walk.

Dressing Up

You don’t have to dress the part but, if you want to look like an authentic Victorian, just walk into any clothes shop. (There are two along Eichor Street, on your left.) Just walk through Eichtor Gate and you’ll soon find the clothes shops, slightly further along the road.

Here you can find a huge variety of male and female outfits; civilian and military. You are welcome to buy any costumes that you want. Your clothes will save when you exit the game so you will always find them within your inventory, when you return again.

Rat Collecting

Your first objective is to explore the old city and find the rat collector. (He is found on the far side of the city, near the church.) This is an ideal time to wander around the streets of the city, to see what else there is to find.

When you find the rat collector, click on ‘E’ and a set of on-screen prompts will appear on your screen. These prompts will explain your first steps in the game.

Click on your response, to navigate through the short set of instructions. The rat collector will explain that you have to catch rats (no more than twenty) by entering the courtyard behind him and click on the rats when they are close. Remember to click on ‘Finish’ when you are done, so that you can stop the work and collect your money.

Pure Collecting

Another way of earning money is the collection of dog pure. (Yes, this was a real job in Victorian times! The pure was used to purify leather, in the tanning process.) Walk up to the pure collector and press ‘E’ on your keyboard, to talk with him.

Walk up to any dog pure that you find laying in the streets. (Warning: there is a lot of it! Victorian streets were very unhygienic.) Click on the pure to sweep the bucket across the ground, to scoop up the pure. Your bucket can hold a maximum of twenty scoops of pure.

There are many other jobs to be found around the city. Try approaching some NPCs and talk with them, to see what jobs they will offer you.

Food and Drink

To eat, and replenish your food level, enter a food shop and click on any item of food to buy it. When you eat the food, your hunger will be satisfied. To replenish your thirst level, buy a bottle of water from the Cafe Nic (next to the church) and then drink the water within. You might even want to visit the public water fountain, at the left hand side of the church, for a free drink of water.

Renting a Room

If you want, you can rent a room for yourself. Approach the estate agent on Eichtor Hill (just past the organ grinder) and press ‘E’ to speak with him and identify your home. If you want to return to the city a different time, please return to the estate agent to find the location of your new home. He will offer you a different location each time, depending on how many other players there are in the game. However, don’t worry, any furniture that you place in your home will always be saved each time.

When you have enough money, you may want to buy some furniture. The furniture store is at the other end of the city, over the bridge and to the left hand side of the church. There is a huge amount of furniture in the showroom there, to cater for any taste.

By the way, your home will always start by being locked, so that no intruders can disturb your home. However, if you want to entertain guests, walk into your home and click on the inside of the door handle. This will toggle the ‘lock’ and ‘unlock’ function so that others can enter your home.

Miscellaneous Information

There are many other badges around the game that can be won. (At the time of writing, there were more than 100 badges!) More badges will be added to the game on an ad hoc basis. Many of these badges are awarded automatically, as you explore the city. Other badges can be won by clicking on a special item in the game. These badges are spread throughout the entire city and in the fields outside the city walls.

You could even experiment with the tools. When it starts to rain, you might want to equip the umbrella. Have you ever wondered what happens when you jump whilst holding an open umbrella? Try it and see! There are other tools hidden around the city: a walking stick that allows you to sprint really fast and a magic cloak that allows you to become invisible. You’ll have to hunt those out for yourself!

There are two teleporters around the city, to ease your navigation. These are large cylindrical metal structures, that look like public toilets. Just enter a teleporter, to make use of it.

Buying a Horse

The city is large and you’ll probably welcome a break from running around the streets. If you want, you can buy a horse from the horse seller, who is located in the stables on Eichtor Hill, just past the estate agent. Don’t worry, there is a wooden sign in the street, to point to the stables. The horse seller can be found there.

Just approach the horse seller and press ‘E’ on your keyboard, to talk with him. There are many horses to choose, each with their own unique characteristics. You will also be pleased to know that your horse(s) will be saved when you leave the game. So, if you return again another time, you’ll find your horse(s) safely stabled in your inventory.

As well as horse riding, you might want to try using a Victorian bicycle, a rowing boat or even a steampunk aircraft to navigate around the city. There are many fun ways of exploring the city.

Of course, there are dangers around the city. Remember that most Victorians could not swim. You are not advised to enter the waters: even if you don’t drown, you will most likely die from ingesting pollution. There are many dangers around the city: heavy machinery, zombies and a midnight ghost… Perhaps, when you pass a house, you might even get knocked on the head by a swinging window shutter! Please do take care on your travels.

Don’t forget to wander inside some of the buildings, as you explore. Many private houses are locked. However, there are lots of buildings that can be entered: interesting places to explore and wonderous things to see. Try going inside the church, the fortifications, the factory, the shops or some random houses. Have fun navigating the 1867 replica of Luxembourg city. As you will discover, there are lots of things to see and do.

Goodbye

Goodbye Victorian explorer. We hope that you enjoyed your visit into the past. Perhaps you may like to return and visit the city again another time - we’d would love to see you soon!

This game is a work in progress and there are always new things added month-by month.
